  1. Can y'all eat rice and bread? So far I can...is that bad?
  2. I just bougth some papaya enzyme at GNC that's supposed to help if you get stuck or slime. Hopefully, I'll never have to use it, but I'll let you know how it works if I do! Do y'all do this: I weight at the beginning of the week and I've lost 5lbs, weigh on Wednesday and I've gained 3lbs, weigh on Friday and I end up only losing 2 lbs? That's weird, but I guess some is better than none. Are we supposed to eat rice? I can't remember if it's a no-no or one of the things they said try and see just like pasta. I've found I can eat bread too, but only in tiny bites.
  3. SOmetimes the docs can give you a fill even with a flipped port. The lady at my docs office said that it's the most common complication they see and if the docs can figure out how to fill you (can get to it) they can do it without any more surgery, but sometime ppl have to get in weird positions for them to get at it. They will probably give you a fluro to see where it at now and how it's positioned (or have they already).
  4. I know this might sound a little out there, but do you reckon that the crazy emotions might be from hormones? When I went for my fill, my cycle had been messed up from losing weight and I talked about it with the doctor and he said that the fat stores estrogen and when you lose it, the fat has to release the hormones before it gets burned up. I know hormones make me crazy!
  5. I love that new ticker!
  6. Capt. - are the almonds going down okay? My doc said no nuts, but I can't do that and no POPCORN too! I'm thinking if we chew enough it'll be okay? I'll miss beer too. My nutritionist said that carbonated beverages would be okay after the first year (in moderation) so that everything has time to scar into place.
  7. My PCP recommended taking b12 supplements orally. At what point should I expect my lapband doc or my PCP to be doing blood work to check this stuff? My PCP mentioned just keeping an eye on things, but the lap-band doc hasn't said anything about blood work yet, should I ask? You'd expect something like that to be included in the $15000 fee.
  8. I nursed my son and it was hell. My boobs shrank on top of that. My advice is to wait too unless you're absolutely positive you don't want to nurse your baby.
  9. What part of VA ja9va? I grew up in VA and my Mom and bro are still there.
  10. I've been having a time trying to choke down vitamins. Gus and I have been taking Flintstones Complete, but for some reason they taste like a mouthfull of rust to me and I gag trying to get it down. I found a chewable Centrim vitamin and it's not bad at all. Everything is still going down easy as long as I take my time. How's everybody else doing? Vlynn - I know this sounds awful, but it some of the best advice ever given to me when I started teaching Middle School kids...if you can pull it off, don't crack a smile or joke and play with them for at least two weeks. Don't let them get by with ANYTHING until Christmas. They respond well to rewards too, I guess all kids do. They really respect you if you're upfront and honest about what you can tolerate behavior-wise the first day too. Above all, when it gets hard...remember that they're just silly kids at the hardest time in their life trying to feel comfortable. Good Luck!
  11. Just to let y'all know, I called Dr. H's office and spoke with his nurse and she said it was okay to take children's liquid Motrin for my arthritic ankle if the Tylenol didn't work.
  12. Suzzie and Stef - I had that crazy tight first fill where my doc had to take some out. I kept getting things stuck for a week and half. Then I realized I was eating too fast. I had that not hungry and not full feeling too. It's been about 4 days of nothing getting stuck so far and today is 2 weeks post 1st fill. The ladies at my support group meeting said that this is restriction we're feeling and if you have acid reflux, tend to eat just crunchy stuff that will go down, you may be too tight. From what I understand this fill is supposed to get tighter next week (week 3.) If it does and I keep getting stuck again, I'm going to try to get a slight unfill. So far right now it's okay. Oh yeah, try sipping something hot before EVERY meal and that helps LOADS.
  13. Lisa - I hope that mother-in-law gets better soon!
  14. Good luck Betty! Lisa
  15. Twinstwice - I have a friend in TXARKA that was banded in Mexico too and she uses Dr. Kathleen Querry for fills...not sure I spelled her name right, but she's listed on the lapband site as one of the docs that is close by. She seems to really like her too. Thank you, Sharon. I was stunned this morning when I put a new battery in the scales and it said I'd lost 7 lbs since last week! I got on and off on and off about 5 times to make sure it didn't change it's mind. 50lbs was my first goal. I'm setting a new to lose 60lbs by the time my students return on August 20th. Y'all remind me of that from time to time if you don't mind because eating is getting easier now. I'm going to call and ask about the ibuprofen tomorrow, I'll let y'all know what they say. The liquid children's ibuprofen worked today, but I did notice it going down, drank some Water and it went away
  16. Suzzzie, do you cut the small tablets up or can you swallow them? I've got so much restriction I think I would need to cut them.
  17. Has anybody's doctor told them that ibuprofen (advil, motrin) is a no-no too? Has anybody taken ibuprofen???? Tylenol is not working!
  18. HOw's everybody doing today? Vlynn - Hang in there and be brave, I've spent the last 8 years with 6-8th grade and few high schoolers! Keep an eye out for their sneak cell phone cheating! I have an awesome headache this morning. Not matter how often I take Tylenol, it doesn't work. I took an adult dose of Gus' childrens ibuprofen so that I can make it to take him to speech this morning. I know they told us no ibuprofen, but sometimes it's the only thing that helps. Have any of you had problems with it and have you taken it in pill form? Is there anything other than tylenol we can take for aches and pains and headaches? I've gone three days straight with nothing getting stuck and this Thursday will be 2 weeks post fill. Woohoo! Maybe I'm finally getting the hang of it, and was just being a wuss????
  19. I had another good day. So far so good. I half-heartedly keep a food diary, about every other day and I noticed the low calories too. I've added a glass of milk and one of juice to help up it. Some days I get like 750 and I'm sutffed!
  20. Pippz - I've had that pain and feeling just about once a day since I got my very TIGHT fill. I haven't thrown up yet, but wish that I could have. I have found that if I wait a few minutes after the pain begins, I walk around and sip something HOT. It seems to help with the pain and make it pass quicker. If it gets tighter like everyone tells me it will and this pain stuff happens more often, I'm going to go ask for my doc to take a little out. I've found that if I sit down and look at my food for 5 minutes, it makes me slow down and take small bites.
  21. Try to ignore all those typos since you can't edit anything on here!
  22. Okay, I LOVE popcorn. How are y'all able to eat it and not get stuck? My doc has me terrified of it, they told me that is a hull got stuck I woul dhave to have surgery to get the band removed so that it could go through! I've been eating the hulless when I HAVE to have it, but it's still not the same.
  23. I'm back from Nashville and thing are going down better. I tried what Lisa suggested to take a few minutes and not eat as soon as my food was brought out and just look at it and it's helped me slow down. Vlynn, I can do crunchy really easy, I'll keep that in mind this week in case I have anymore too tight days AND I'm taking everything small and slow. I wish I could have been there to meet you guys. Hopefully, my world will slow down a little as I get back into the swing of life here with Gussy by myself.
  24. It's been about a week since my fill. I appreciate all the advice, I know y'all are just looking out for me. Don't worry about offending me, I figure that collectively, we're pretty darn smart! I wouldn't post about stuff if I wasn't a little unnerved by it. I've had no trouble today. I had a hunk of grilled turkey breast for lunch. I've noticed that whenever I have a hot lunch and breakfast, there's not trouble. Plus I ate as soon as I came in from mowing and I, myself, was hot too. I'm going to give it a little more time over the weekend and see if it'll get better. I've been chewing 50 times instead of the 30 and that seems to help too. It's something I can live with at the moment and I hate to think I might not tolerate a fill. I just need to slow down, that's been the hardest part for me. Thanks for caring!
  25. The hot liquids aren't working. I get cottage chese hung, so I guess I'll be eating grits or cream of wheat at lunch and breakfast. We're leaving Friday morning for Nashville to meet my brother there and he's picking up Mom. Lisa I hope it's not to annoying for ya. Y'all hang in there!
