  12. My band eroded after only having it for a year, I'm currently researching doctors that might reband me. The doctor that removed my band said it probably eroded after six months. I had lost 50 pounds in the first six months. some have said that it may have eroded due to a small infection from the get go, or the doctor may have put it on too tight in the first place, or my body just rejected it. i hope it is not the latter, because I would like to find someone to reband me. I lost that 50 pounds without ever having a fill, so i like to think that maybe it was just too tight from the get go. My problem is going to be finding a doctor that will reband me at 5'6" 173 pounds, that puts my BMI at like 28ish i think. BUT I think I should be an exception for if my band had not eroded, I would have one at this point. I have gained back 23 pounds since having it removed in Dec. So I dont' want to balloon back up to preband weight before anyone will help me. I was wondering also about people who may have had the lap rny, and what their experience may have been. Is the healing time less for that than the open rny?

    Erosion/Rebanding Please Read

No, I didn't have insurance pay for the first banding. I was banded by Dr. Lopez in Tijuana. I have spoken with a few doctors in Mexico who are considering rebanding me based on the fact that I would still have my band if it hadn't been removed. I don't see it as a way of maintenance. however if I did still have it, it would be doing exactly that helping me to maintain the loss I already had. I do feel obese at this weight especially after being down to below 150 right after I came home from having it removed. I am praying someone will help me.

    Signs and symptoms of erosion.....

The only symptoms I had of erosion were some pain where the band was, and no restriction after fills. I had mine removed ini Dec. and have gained back 23 pounds, I am hating life right now, and said I would never get rebanded, but now I am seriously considering it.

    erosions

EROSION is definitely not a myth. I had to have my band removed in Dec. after only having it for a year because it eroded, and not a little, it eroded a lot, and there was tons of inflammation in there, and I ended up having to stay in the hospital for 9 days instead of one, because I had a horrible infection. SO yes it does happen, why it happened I don't have a clue, maybe infection, maybe it was on too tight, maybe my body just rejected it. However with all that said, i'm currently researching doctors to see if i can be rebanded.
  16. Hey all, I don't know if I have ever posted to this site, I must read in here. I was banded Oct. 25, 2003 and I just found out yesterday that my band is eroding and that I have to have it removed. I'm very frustrated, because I went to Mexico and paid out of my pocket for something that I thought would be there to help me the rest of my life, and here it is a year later and I have to have it taken out. A lady that went at the same time as me and had it done the same day by the same doctor also has to have hers removed this Thursday. Coincidence we think NOT. Has anyone else had this problem and if so did you contact Inamed and did you get any information that would be helpful? Please share your story with me. Thanks

    Band removed

Well, I'm bandless. I went in last Tuesday to have it removed due to the erosion, Doc. said I should go home the next day if no problems. Well I didn't get to come home for 8 days. I ended up getting an infection, which the infectuous disease doc, doesn't know if it was there prior to surgery or not. I had so much inflamation in there, they put in a drainage tube, and I had to wear it home, I go back next tue. to hopefully have it removed. My hemoglobin level dropped so low, that they were on the verge of giving me blood, which totally grosses me out. My white blood count was super high, but once they started me on the iv antibiotics it started to go down, and my fever started going down. They finally agreed to let me go home if I could eat something, take oral antibiotics and keep them down. I'm glad to be home, but not looking forward to life after band. The doc. said that by the looks of the erosion, it had probably stopped working for me six months after getting it. I only had it a year. Like my aunt said today, that was a lot of money to spend to lose 54 pounds. Oh well, we live and learn. So to those of you who still have your bands, best of luck to you, to those who are getting a band good luck to you. Keep in mind that not all bandsters end up this way, I am just one of the unlucky ones. Take care all, chrissy

    Band removed

Some answers: the symptoms I had were some pain where the band was, and three unsuccessful fills. No I did not go back to Mexico to have it removed. No I will not have another one placed, doc says it can be done, but I don't want to go thru this again. Thank you all for your support. Chrissy

Due to erosion having my band removed Dec. 7th

Thank you all so much for your support. No I have not heard from Dr.Lopez directly, only from his patient coordinator. It was only the one time when she informed me that I needed to have an endo done to confirm an erosion. I did that, and emailed her the results, and now I have not heard anything from them. I got a letter from Inamed just telling me they have made a record of my complaint. I will keep you all posted. Thank you, chrissy, oh yeah I am having my band removed in Kansas. Hope all goes well, this will be his first one to remove. Thanks, Chrissy
  20. :cry Thank you all for responding to my original thread. I have my date for having my band removed. I am going on Dec. 7th. I am a little nervous because it is the first one that this doctor has had to remove. I am so worried about how I am going to be successful with my weight loss after it is gone. I am especially angry to see that there have been at least 7 people who have had to have theirs removed that had their original surgery done by Dr. Lopez. I have contacted Inamed, and they asked a lot of questions, and they want me to send them my and after it has been removed. I also notified Dr. Lopez's office, and I got back one email saying that it needed to be confirmed by an endo, I emailed them back and told them I had one done, and it was definitely eroded. Not that anything can be done about it, since he is a Mexico doctor. My doctor here said it ma well have been the way the band was placed. However somone mentioned that Dr. Lopez has trained others and they are not having any problems. So what if it is a problem with the band itself. Will Inamed do anything about it???? I imagine if I send them my band they'll look it over and say there was no problem with it. The guy on the phone that called me from Inamed, said the ones that they have seen that have been sent in after removal, have only shown signs of the destruction of being removed, and some discoloration due to stomach acids. I think what it all boils to is that I am out of luck. I paid all that money to not get to my weight goal. I will have to go back to trying it on my own. Obviously I was soooo successful at that the first time around. Well wish me luck. Keep me in your prayers. thanks, chrissy
  21. Okay I found it and i believe I deleted it. Thanks
  22. :ermm sorry guys, i don't know where i put the other thread, or how to delete it. My doctor was Dr. Lopez Corvala in Tijuana Mexico, my follow up doctor is in my home state. I don't know if I should mention his name.
  23. Hey everyone, just wanted to introduce myself to the board. My name is Chrissy. I am from Kansas. I am getting banded on Oct. 25th by Dr. Lopez. One question-Is anyone else from Kansas and if so, do you know of any doctors that will do the fills for patients who have had their procedures done in Mexico? If so, please let me know. Thank you very much.
