  1. I go for my first fill 8/20 (banded 7/5)---wondering the same thing...does it hurt?
  2. Between pre-surgery diet (lost 20 lbs) and post-surgery liquids (lost 14lbs) -Total lost 34 lbs and people have taken notice. They said I have more of a "shape". When I came back to work they were like...wow...who is the skinny girl...I couldn't believe that! Everyone loses differently and in different places. I think since most my weight is in my stomach area and back its probably more visible when I lose there. Banded 7/5
  3. Do either of you have any local lap support groups you can attend? Please visit your doctors office and let them know your feelings...
  4. Congrats I've Lost 12 lbs but I'm still on purée and not quite two weeks out .. Imagine I will gain slightly when I start eating
  5. I get my first fill 8/20. My surgery date was 7/5. I have a trip the 2nd week in Aug so they scheduled for after this. Glad to hear it wasn't painful. I'm sort of anxious about my first fill.
  6. Good luck today! Prayers & thoughts with you!! You will soon be a bandster! Congrats! Let us know how you do!
  7. I have the same fear that the band won't work with me but I am not letting it get the best of me small goals I dropped a few pounds post surgery and I haven't weigh this little in years so I'm already a winner! So celebrate the small joys!
  8. We r here for you! EDG will be able to see what they can't in a swallow study. Good luck and best wishes.
  9. speedy recovery! you'll be a bandster soon!
  10. I had a problem with any powdered form of protein. They all seemed to have an after taste? I like EAS drinks and they are cheap but only if really cold; prefer the vanilla but the strawberry is not bad.
  11. I'm back to work today. Sitting on edge of my chair helps. I also brought my butterfly pillow they gave me at the hospital from the support group. So far, so good. I've got almost 1/2 the day done. I'm off pain meds as of yesterday. My stomach must still be swollen because I've lost 12 lbs since surgery day (7/5) but none of my pants will fit (they are too tight!) so good thing I kept a few older, more comfy pants for work! That was kinda a shocker as I thought my pants would be too loose! I will ask about this on Wed. I got meet with my surgeon to do a post-op. I'm on Puree foods as of Thursday. Yeh, this is a difficult eating time (aka bandster hell)...I pureed egg salad but it definitely made me gassy and I'm paying the price today!!
  12. M 10 days post op and my port area still is tender. I have to support it with a pillow if I sit too long. While standing doesn't really bother it. Riding in car for too long really aggrevates it. Is this normal?
  13. Six days post-op and I'm feeling pretty good. Still hold my port area a little bit but hardly at all. I'm completely off the pain meds. I'm not hungry at all (thank the lord). However, yesterday I had a very sore throat and it was all white with little bumps on the roof of my mouth (almost like I burned it) - this is gone today but its replaced by a cough. It's a sore throat type cough and I'm worried....will it make my band slip to cough? My band has no restriction yet and won't until Aug 20th.
  14. Banded on Thursday 7/5 mid way through day 6. I haven't yet been hungry and I've been sort of walking around my kitchen in a daze, lol. The best things I found so far is chicken broth, cream of mushroom soup strained & watered down, tomato soup made with 1% milk and water added. I'm on full liquids for another week. I'm drinking juices light grape and apple. I'm thinking egg drop soup strained would be heavenly!
  15. Funny!!! I do prefer drummers anyhow!
  16. I have a sister and friend who had bypass the three of us did just this! We all think it's a good idea except for tastes like I dress business casual very low key and my friend and sis are very bold color people so it'd be great to have a plays closet for plus sized women
  17. I can't even count the number of times I've been told that in my life - even has this fiddle player once say to me I don't go for fat chicks but your face is gorgeous - like I should be flattered!
  18. I'm so grateful for this site! I don't feel alone in my recovery
  19. Thanks all I will call dr this an

  21. The back of my tongue and throat feels like I ate grits and the grits are still stuck there anyone ever experience this? I'm 4 days post op and on full liquids only
  22. Got banded morning of July 5th. Arrived at hospital at 6 a.m. After checking in nurse took us to Pre-op area. I had to change into a gown & those crazy socks. A nurse came in and started an IV. She numbed the spot then started it in my left arm; half way up on the inside. Never had IV in this spot. Didn't hurt at all. After this I met with anesetialogist (sorry sp), the team going in the room (several med students as its an educational hospital. I met with the room coordinator, the surgeon & I was given a shot in the stomach to prevent blood clots. Surprisingly this didn't hurt at all, except it burned a litle afterwards. One of the orderlies asked me if I liked wine & he said they had a good glass for me. They put something in my IV and wheeled me into the ER. I felt the bed blow up and them transfer me onto the operating table and felt them start moving me around then I don't remember anything after that until I was in Post Op. A nice man was my attendant and never left my side. He asked me about the pain and he gave me pain med. I looked at the time and saw it was 10:30. I was told I had to wait for a room. I got a room at about noon. I was suppose to take the swallow test later that day but they gave me morphine and I got dizzy, overwhelmed, sick and started crying. They took me down to sleep study & I tried standing for the xrays but I got sick and they said we'd do it the next day that I'd had trauma enough for one day. I had brought a long pillow to place across me & this was a godscend. I don't think I could have handled it without this pillow. They gave me hydrocodone mix for med & I was up every hour (couldn't sleep) and I shared a room with a transplant patient so it was extremely busy. It was pretty late when they brought in water, applie juice, popsicle for me to start on. I got a shot for blood thinners in the tummy every 12 hours. I kept my own record, drinking 1 oz fluid per hour, later moving to 3 oz. Took me down the next day and I did the study. I was sick and clammy feeling after drinking that chalk substance. I laid down for a few hours & they brought me lunch =switching to full liquids from clear liquids. I had to be able to keep carnations sugar free mix with skim milk down. I did and also had cream mushroom soup strained which tasted like heaven. The admin that helped me with paperwork process stopped in with a butterfly pillow the local gastric support group makes for new patients. She also gave me a photo of my lap & port that they took when they did the swallow test with the pager number of the doctor on call over the weekedn. Then I was given meds and it was the ride home. Was so happy to get home. I got comfy with pillows & slept good that night. They next day I felt a million times better. Today a little bit better.
