  1. I had VSG almost 2 years ago, 7/19/11. I lost 60 lbs. quickly in the beginning but have since plateaued. I still have 25 lbs. to lose and just can't get the scale to move anymore! I was able to eliminate my medication (pills) in the beginning, but recently have had my sugars spike again, so I'm back on my medicine. I was hopeful that the surgery would help me eliminate it for good. I am VERY careful about what I eat (limiting carbs-etc.) I am thrilled for those who are "cured"-wish I'd have had the same results. Back to Day 1 liquids - just got to get the rest of my weight off!
  2. This could be my story except I am at 7 months and have lost 60 pounds. My doctor has even given me a med to try to help me start losing again. I need to lose 30 more pounds. I am so afraid my weight loss has come to a halt. I haven't seen the scale move since early December. This is very frustrating. On a good note, my Diabetes is much better. I am thankful for what I have lost, but I have been so discouraged the last week or so. I guess when I see and hear so many stories of huge losses and Diabetes resolved early on, it makes me feel like a failure. I just need to get to goal for my health. I need some assurance it will happen.

    Slow weight loss

Hi Kathy, I am almost 15 weeks out and I seem to be a slow loser also. I am down 47 pounds. I hear stories of 60 pound losses in the same time and it can become discouraging. Regardless, I am thrilled with my sleeve and know I will continue to lose. My health is much better which is the reason I did this, so I cannot complain. I do not always eat perfectly because of my crazy lifestyle, but I can't and don't want to eat very much anyway. My weight seems to go in chunks-nothing for a while and then "Bam" 3 pounds gone in a day. Hang in there.

    Would you sleeve again?

Yes, yes, yes! I just wish I had done this before my diabetes got so out of control. I developed peripheral neuropathy and had so much pain in my feet that I became fearful that I would not be able to work or have a decent quality of life. I am 2 months post op and feeling much better. I have lost 38 pounds and just hit ONEderland. I am off of many of my meds now and my diabetes is getting better each day. I have significantly less pain when I walk. I can say that up until this week, I have struggled with nausea and pain. The healing process is just plain hard. I went back to work on week 3 and just struggled through each day. I am a first grade teacher who loves my job. I told a friend today that I feel I have turned the corner this week and feel good, no problems eating or with nausea. Some of us just take longer to heal. I am so glad I did it! My weight loss may not be as great as some, but I continue to have at least a 2 pound loss per week (no stalls yet). This has given me hope and my life back.
  5. I can swallow capsules well so I was excited to find on another post that Celebrate has multi vitamin capsules. I checked them out and they have lots of B 12, calcium citrate, and biotin (no iron). I am thrilled to toss my nauseating chewables (Centrum). They claim most bariatric patients will not need extra sublingual B12.

    4 Days Post Op

Hello all, I hope my sleeve sisters are feeling better. Oh, lovmyboys I also have the burping issue and gas x only helps a little. Thanks for all of the other well wishes and help here! I am trying so hard. It seems that Sonic crushed ice is saving me at the moment. I checked my blood sugar this evening and it was 230! Yikes! I was hoping for much better. The PA told me stress from surgery often causes this. Nancy, I too can have creamy Soups and other full liquids now. I tried a Protein shake with skim milk today, but my tastes have really changed and I can't handle anything sweet. Do you have any suggestions? I've just got to find something that my sleeve likes. I think it would help my nausea/raw feeling and weakness.

    4 Days Post Op

Hello, I was also sleeved on the morning of 7/19. I did great at first, but started having nausea late Thursday night after I got home. I've just been trying to hold myself together since. I don't know how anyone gets so much down. I am just doing the best I can, trying to stay hydrated and optimistic. I have lost 11 pounds since surgery. I'm trying not to stress my family. I just want to curl up in my bed and get comfortable so much, but I can't find a good position. The moral here is that we just had major surgery and healing takes time. Hanging in here. Sometime soon we will feel better.
  8. All has gone as expected and I am about to be discharged from the hospital. Thankfully I have had little nausea. I am very sore and weak. The gas pain hasn't been too bad. I have only had ice chips, water and jello; they went down easily. I have the most trouble with the liquid lortab. It burns as it goes down, but I do need it. The gas meds help too. I will have to travel home, a four hour drive, tomorrow. Ive got to stop and walk every hour. My doctor told me to sip water on the trip and start Isopure at home since it may make me nauseated. A funny thing happened on the way to surgery. They asked my consent for several other doctors from around the country to observe. I was their VSG lesson. LOL

    Good luck July 19 sleevers

Thank you! Just woke up (5 am) and I am getting ready to go. I have to be at the hospital at 7:30 and surgery is at 9:00. I had a 4 hour drive to get here yesterday. The plan is 1 night in the hospital (2 if needed) and 1 night in the hotel that is next door to the hospital then drive back. I am praying for no nausea or severe pain. I've had 3 other surgeries that were difficult so I have some anxiety. My friend who used this doctor and had the same drive home didn't have any trouble so I'm hoping for the same. A year later and she is down 90 lbs and is very happy! Well it's time to go. I'll talk to you on the other side of this. Losers bench here I come.

    Back at home

Are any of you able to swallow pills? I am concerned about one of my existing prescriptions because the pills are so large. My nurse seems to think I will be able to by breaking them but they are still large and I take 6 a day. Yikes!

    July Master List

I'll keep praying for you LaValeHawk. Hopefully you will have answers and a surgery date soon. Your life and safety is most important. Hugs.

    July Master List

So sorry LaValeHawk. I'll pray this is resolved so you can move on soon. I don't know what is wrong with me. I guess nerves are getting to me. I am just crying at odd times. I really am ready to get healthy. I am so tired of chronic pain. I want my life back. I've had other surgeries that were very hard (lots of nausea from anesthesia) so I guess that is not helping matters. I hope I can calm down. My tummy has already been not quite right and I didn't have to do a pre op diet. I am just ready to be post op and over the hurdles. VSG scheduled July 19th

  16. Hello all, My surgery is July 19th. I am a school teacher (1st grade) and go back to work August 8th. I really love my job. Am I going to be able to keep up with my class by then?  Thanks

    July 19th surgery date

This is great! You are all so supportive. I really haven't told very many people, just a few close friends and family. One of them is a coworker who teaches on my hall so she will help me. I am trying to get as much done this week as I can. I like to just walk in my classroom ready to go the first week. I love my job and am having this surgery for health reasons so I can keep my job. I am a type 2 diabetic who has developed severe painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Standing all day has become a nightmare and I rarely sit when I teach. I am ready to be healthy and pain free! The healing process after surgery is my only big concern. I don't do well with nausea

    Nervous

I'm worried about nausea. I hate being nauseated! Also I was told I have a small hernia. How will that affect my healing time? 
