Dealt with being "overweight" all my life, though, as I have gone through the pre-surgery journey, I have discovered that in high school I was within a normal weight or slightly overweight range for my body size (very large frame, so my lean mass is near the top of the "normal BMI weight" range with absolutely no body fat) . Started gaining when I hit college and seemed to add on the pounds with each passing year in school (7 years, I have a PhD) and each kid (two darling boys, ages 2 and 5 who are tall and skinny, go figure!). The decision to band has come from a desire to focus on longevity now, when I can do something about it and before I develop any serious obesity-related diseases. My husband of 8 years is very supportive of the decision and, someday soon, I hope he will follow in my footsteps to achieve better health for all of us.
