Staying Active Beyond Working Out
Ugh! We're about 5 hours from the beach, or I'd be there all the time. (I am going through MAJOR beach withdrawals right now, in fact!!)

Staying Active Beyond Working Out
My husband and I are looking for ways to stay active on the weekends, beyond our workouts. What are some ideas? I'm sad to say that after being sedentary for so many years, I'm at a bit if a loss! Keep in mind we have an almost-3 year old that we'd like to include in our activities. Thanks in advance for your input!

Im Scheduled For 9/11...need Advice
I'm being banded on 8/24, but wanted to reply and let you know I don't have to do a preop diet either. I'm going to be doing one anyway, on my own. My hubby is currently recovering from gastric bypass and when he starts mushies next week I'm going to join him by eating the same things out of support. I also think I will lose some weight in the process and it will prepare me mentally. Good luck!!

Is Anyone Else Scheduled For August?
August 24th here!!!!

Yay! Scheduled For Aug 24Th
I'm so excited to be scheduled! They tried to get me in sooner but my husband is recovering from gastric bypass (Tuesday), so we are waiting for more time to pass. He will be starting mushies next week and I'm going to eat the same as him, though likely more in volume. I think it will be a support to him and may help me lose weight. (no pre-op diet for me) Our lives are going to change so much and I'm so excited. Silly as it sounds, we've been daydreaming about all the things we want to do as a family (amusement parks top the list). We spoke to our closest friends (they don't struggle with their weight) about how we should get together and do things other than "dinner" .....going for walks/hikes topped the list. Woo hoo!!!

Discouraged By Pcp
My ins will cover me without any comorbidities. That is not an issue, she just said it as another reason to not support me. That's why I'm frustrated.

Discouraged By Pcp
Went to my doc today to get my letter of medical necessity. She told me that she didn't support me getting the lapband and that I needed gastric since I need to lose 100 pounds. She said that all of her patients who have had lapband lose 30-50 pounds max and that's not enough for me. I told her that my surgeon supported me getting the sleeve, bypass or the band and he felt I could be successful at each. She then went on to say that she didn't think my ins would cover it because I don't have any comorbidities. I am feeling so discouraged! I've had my mind made up that the band is right for me and now she's made me doubt my ability to be successful. I know the weight would come off faster in the beginning if I had the band, but I'm ok with slow and steady. I also think that the ongoing maintenance is key to success. You need to have fills to get and stay at the green zone and I get that. Any words of advice?

Taking Communion?
Hear that doughy bread can be difficult to get down and at church today, I realized communion might be an issue. We don't do wafers, we do white bread torn into pieces, but it is doughy. We dip it in the "wine" before eating it. Thoughts? I don't want to get stuck at church!

Is My Body Just Adjusting
I have heard that at some point you need to shake things up with exercise especially. It's great you work out so much! Maybe you need to change up your routine and start adding Zumba or a spin class into the mix, just for a jump start.....?

What Size Portions Were You Eating Between Surgery And Your First Fill?
I haven't yet been banded, so take my response witha grain of salt! My understanding is you get fills when your weight loss stalls and you need more restriction. You want to be restricted to about 1/2 cup of food at a time. If you are still hungry after eating that much you probably need a fill. This is of course, after you've received your first fill. It sounds likeitusually takes 3-4 fills to get to the green zone (or ideal restriction level).

How Much At 3-Month And 6-Month?

Whole Grain Carbs
Triscuits are not whole grain. They may have some processed whole grains in them, but whole grains are things like: Bulgur (cracked wheat) Whole wheat flour Whole oats/oatmeal Whole grain corn/corn meal Popcorn Brown rice Whole rye Whole grain barley Wild rice Buckwheat buckwheat flour Triticale Millet Quinoa Sorghum Finding whole grain foods can be a challenge. Some foods only contain a small amount of whole grain but will say it contains whole grain on the front of the package. The closer you are to the grains natural state, the better.
