  1. Such an inspiration! You look amazing!
  2. Thanks do much for all of the information everyone - I appreciate it!!
  3. I have been reading a lot and making sure that this procedure is the right one for me. I also want to write down as many questions as I can come up with for my surgeon consultation next week. I am worried that there is very little documented after 3 to 5 years after surgery since this is so new. However, this is just part of what they do when they perform a duodenal switch and that procedure has been successful since the 70's. Right? Will I wake up one day and say "What have I done?!!!" Will I need that portion of my stomach at any point in my life? Is this going to cause issues later on? I understand that most moribly obese people die from something related to that so I might as well take a jump into a healthy life.....I am just worried. What convinced you that this was the right thing for you? What questions did you ask your surgeon that you think I might want to? Am I CRAZY?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated:)
  4. Not sure if you're still on here but I'm in Cheshire and hopefully having surgery in a few months. I'd love to speak to someone who has been there done that!
  5. My consultation with Dr. Macaron is on the 26th. He Performs the surgery at St. Mary's hospital in Waterbury. I'm nervous and so excited!
  6. Quitting sucks but just do it. You'll feel so much better in a few months! Just remember how much your going through to improve your health.....and then to smoke a cigarette? I quit last January. Good luck.
  7. With my schedule, I believe I could get approved in 2 to 3 months - It's going to be getting the time off from work that is going to take longer.
  8. I have the BCBS PPO plan through work. I opted to pay more each week then to have a deductible but I completely understand your logic. I too am hoping or January right now. I have two kids and want to enjoy the holidays with them! I also need to schedule time off from work! Your weight loss is am inspiration! Congrats!
  9. Please take the poll above. I am wondering what the normal wait time for surgery is. I have BCBS insurance and the requirments are minimal to get approved. I have scheduled my consultation for the 26th of this month! I can't wait to begin my new life! Any suggestions are appreciated! Stacey
  10. The more I read the more I think the sleeve is right for me! I want to lose the weight and live a normal life with my family. The band just sounds like an on going thing with too many appointments! And they're both minimally invasive so that helps with the decision too!
  11. Thanks. I've been reading for quite a while and each surgery has it's ups and downs. I appreciate your advice!
  12. I went to my WLS seminar last night. The surgeon offers bypass, lap band, and VSG. Before I arrived I was pretty sure that the lap band would be my choice. I was surprised to learn how successful the sleeve has been and now I feel more confused than ever! Today I scheduled my consultation for the 26th and got the requirements needed from my insurance (less required than I had feared). Has anyone else been this lost? What was the major factor that made you choose the VSG over the band?
  13. I quit cold turkey on 1/4/2011. This was before I was considering surgery. The first 3 days were horrible - I slept as much as I could. After 72 hours the only thing to kick is the habit. The nicotine is gone at that point and it is up to you and your determination not to go back to smoking. Less than a year later it is the best thing I could have ever done for myself. I haven't been sick once! I know it's not easy as I still live with a smoker (outside only!). Good luck and believe in yourself! You can accomplish anything you put your mind to!
  14. I am currently at your exact start weight and my seminar is on Monday night. Your story inspired me and gave me the extra push I needed to walk through those doors to start this journey. I can't tell you how much I relate and understand everything about your presurgery experience. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!
  15. Some people think they can talk the talk when they cant even walk the walk! Good luck on your journey!

  17. I'd be interested in seeing responses as well. I manage a tile store and although I am allowed to sit, I also must lift 60lb boxes for customers (and yes I am female lol). Ive read 1 week home then light duty. I wonder what peoples actual experiences have been so we know what to expect!
  18. Don't be so hard on yourself. You are making the best decisions you can right now to be sure you will be there for your kids in the long run. I weigh 20lbs more and have never given birth. I'm young - and I have no excuses. The most important thing is that you focus on the future - good luck and take a moment to be proud of yourself!
  19. Anyone from CT in here? Just wondering to see where you had your surgery done!
  20. I recently stopped drinking soda - for money reasons since it's so expensive. I am so glad I read this. My seminar is next Monday and I will not be drinking soda from now on!! What about powerade?
  21. Shopping in the misses department Hopefully lose a few bra sizes Get rid of my chubby hands and feet Run around on a beach with my kids and not look like a beached whale! Be confident Run an entire road race Enjoy the sight of a mirror Shop with friends - in the same store! I'd like to smile......and feel that happiness inside as well Mostly - I'd like to be proud of myself!
  22. Hi all. My weight is right at a BMI of 40. I'm worried that with a diet of any kind I will fall under the requirement for BMI. When are you weighed? And which weight is the one that is submitted with your insurance paperwork? ~Stacey~
  23. I will definitely be using my insurance. Thanks for all the info
  24. Do you have an Avenue in your area? They often have great in store sales and you can almost always find a $10 off $50 purchase. I buy all of my shoes there as well. Theyre awesome!!! If you dont mind shopping online - you can usually find a coupon for 40% off your highest item. And yes you can use this over and over again by placing a 1 item order! hehe I was in Kohls last week. I cant wait to buy clothes in their misses department.....I love the Vera line and the new JLo line! I almost want to buy a goal outfit.....I dont know if thats a good idea though!
