  1. Hello everyone! I had joined this site because I was in the process of getting the lapband.... Well today I had my 'official' consult with the surgeon and he really believes that the Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass is my best option due to my weight. I had mixed emotions about it but now that I have reviewed everything and talked with my family I do agree with what he had to say. So my question is----why have you changed from the band to the Gastric Bypass? I also want to point out how glad I am that there is a forum on here for us who started out as 'bandsters' because I have made some friends on these forums already and did not want to leave :-)
  2. I am wondering if anyone else has Dr.Van Wagner as thier surgeon? I just saw him on Friday 9/16/11 and he recommended that I get the RNY Gastric Bypass. What is life like after the bypass? Is anyone on here more than 1 year post-op?
  3. I am currently looking for some size 28W pants. If you have any that are too big for you let me know :-) I am willing to pay the shipping if you are willing to just give them away.
  4. Hi! My name is LaToya. I was in the process of getting the LapBand but my surgeon (Dr.Van Wagner-St.Louis) suggested that the RNY Gastric Bypass will be my best bet. I have been overweight since I was 11 years old and probably even before that. It was very emotional when Dr.Wagner told me that he didn't think I would be 'as' succesful with the LapBand....I really appreciated his honesty. So now I am going back and researching everything dealing with the RNY. I am concerned that it is a mal-nutrition process. But I do have at least 200 pounds to loose. Can't wait to get to know everyone. Would love to know if anyone else is seeing Dr.Wagner as well!
  5. I originally started my journey looking to do the LapBand but after consulting with my surgeon and researching other procedures even more, now I am getting RNY Gastric Bypass. I have done all of my requirements and I do believe my claim is being sent to my insurance company either today or tomorrow at the latest!!! I am excited and feel like a little the week of Christmas. I should be having surgery at the begining of December at the latest!!! Can't wait to get to know all of you. I also have a VLOG on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/lmscrogg

    Confused

I just notice that this was not answered ::-) I am new on this board.... But I was informed that the 'sleeve' is just a stepping stone. The sleve is for those that are too big for the bypass. They get the sleeve to loose enough weight to get the bypass. I thought I was going to get the lapband and now I am going to get the gastric bypass due to the higher sucess rate.
  13. It will depend on your surgeon. The surgeon that I have chosen does his as a single incision through the navel. Others do it with 5 small incisions.
  14. What kind of protein shakes are you drinking? You have to be very careful because some of them are formulated for weight gain.
  15. I just read what is needed on the LapBand My Journey site- For after surgery: supply of ice chips for sipping Thin, clear broths, such as chicken or beef Skim milk no-sugar added popsicles, fruit juice
  16. Hello everyone! My name is LaToya and I am new to these forums. I am currently in the process of getting the gastric band, I have my 1st appointment with my surgeon tomorrow. I am both nervous and excited. I am mainly interested in meeting with the Dietitian because I am a very picky eater and want to make sure that I will be sucessful. If you want to reply---please feel free to do so and add your stats soI can see how sucessful you have been. Date of Surger, Begining Weight and Current Weight. Can't wait to hear from everyone!
  17. So---for those of you who received your surgery from Dr.Wagner, what support groups do you attend? I want to sit on a few prior to my surgery.

Dr. Van Wagner - Lap Band

First thing first, if your primary doctor thinks it is something you should look into then you are on the right track. Have you been to a free seminar? I would look at Dr.Wagner's site at www.hoab.org and see when his next seminar is. Then start researching and make sure you have a list of all the questions you come up with. At Dr.Wagner's seminar he answered all the questions I had on my list except one or two during his presentations, I didn't even have to ask :-) I don't have much else to say because I am actually in the process of getting mine. But you must understand that youhave to exercise with this 'tool' you are trying to get. If you do not exercise it will not work. Let us know if you have any more questions as you begin researching. stamp='1301555299' post='1593858'] Hi I am 17 almost 18 and i am really thinking of getting the LapBand i weigh over 300 pounds and i have a liver disease and my doctor thinks that the surgery might help me with all of my health problems. I am really scared and dont know if i really should do it or not but i want to do something to help me and working out and eating right have not helped me at all i have been trying for over four years. So does anyone have any pros and cons to help me decide if i should have the surgery or not. Thank you all
  19. I would like to add that I absolutely LOVE the care I am receiving from Dr.Wagner's office. I am just wondering what made you/people decide to choose him for your surgery besides other places that do not have a patient fee up front.
  20. What about his fee for $200---did anyone ever consdier using another practice? I am going to Dr.Wagner tomorrow and the only thing I am hesitant about is paying the $200 fee they have that is not covered by the insurance.
