Let the waiting begin....
I originally started my journey looking to do the LapBand but after consulting with my surgeon and researching other procedures even more, now I am getting RNY Gastric Bypass. I have done all of my requirements and I do believe my claim is being sent to my insurance company either today or tomorrow at the latest!!! I am excited and feel like a little the week of Christmas. I should be having surgery at the begining of December at the latest!!! Can't wait to get to know all of you. I also have a VLOG on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/lmscrogg

New to the RNY
Hi! My name is LaToya. I was in the process of getting the LapBand but my surgeon (Dr.Van Wagner-St.Louis) suggested that the RNY Gastric Bypass will be my best bet. I have been overweight since I was 11 years old and probably even before that. It was very emotional when Dr.Wagner told me that he didn't think I would be 'as' succesful with the LapBand....I really appreciated his honesty. So now I am going back and researching everything dealing with the RNY. I am concerned that it is a mal-nutrition process. But I do have at least 200 pounds to loose. Can't wait to get to know everyone. Would love to know if anyone else is seeing Dr.Wagner as well!

Who Has Dr. Van Wagner In St. Louis As Their Surgeon?
I am wondering if anyone else has Dr.Van Wagner as thier surgeon? I just saw him on Friday 9/16/11 and he recommended that I get the RNY Gastric Bypass. What is life like after the bypass? Is anyone on here more than 1 year post-op?

Switching from band to RNY Gastric Bypass (Pre-Op)
Hello everyone! I had joined this site because I was in the process of getting the lapband.... Well today I had my 'official' consult with the surgeon and he really believes that the Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass is my best option due to my weight. I had mixed emotions about it but now that I have reviewed everything and talked with my family I do agree with what he had to say. So my question is----why have you changed from the band to the Gastric Bypass? I also want to point out how glad I am that there is a forum on here for us who started out as 'bandsters' because I have made some friends on these forums already and did not want to leave :-)

Confused
I just notice that this was not answered ::-) I am new on this board.... But I was informed that the 'sleeve' is just a stepping stone. The sleve is for those that are too big for the bypass. They get the sleeve to loose enough weight to get the bypass. I thought I was going to get the lapband and now I am going to get the gastric bypass due to the higher sucess rate.

what kind of inscion is used with lap band
It will depend on your surgeon. The surgeon that I have chosen does his as a single incision through the navel. Others do it with 5 small incisions.
