  1. Do a search on this website and ask your nutritionist before you buy them. I read something about protein shots not being a good quality protein so we don't absorb it well or something like that.
  2. Are you sure? With all or most insurances you can travel and it would be covered.
  3. I also hope that tonight is different! Silly question. How do you know what's in season? Nowadays we get fruit from all over the world so I have no idea! *** (embarrased, hanging head)***
  4. I have been lactose intolerant for years so I use skim Lactaid milk, naturally lactose free Cabot cheeses (there are others I think) and room temperature ready to drink lactose free Protein drinks such as Oh Yeah brand. Lactaid also has a yogurt & cottage cheese. (I don't like yogurt or cottage cheese so I haven't tasted it.) I second the unjury chicken at this stage. That and Isopure "fruit juice" were great. Best wishes!
  5. One more question please. Since when have you been able to eat this amount?
  6. Glad to hear from you Peacequeen! I had been thinking about you. Awesome news about your leak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I don't have experience with this doctor, but just wanted to say that if you are concerned now, imagine how you will feel a few days before surgery. My surgeons expertise gave me a lot of peace. I knew that even if something went wrong, he would know how to fix it. I wouldn't pick this surgeon. No where near the experience I require, but obviously that is my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt. :-)
  8. Not only were you told they took your insurance when you set an appointment , but when you visited they took your copay and not full payment. They made TWO mistakes. I would call my insurance and then call them. I wonder if he was covered at the time of your phone call and visit. At a minimum, I would want a DEEP discount. I would fight it. I have a PPO and I call my insurance for expensive things like surgery but not every time my daughter or I go see a new specialist. Like you, I call the doctors office and take the receptionists word. In the end I know I will be responsible financially, but I can't imagine calling my health insurance so often! Do others call every time? Congratulations on your potential approval! :-)
  9. My weight loss is similar to yours and I am happy with it, but I do need to start exercising, like your surgeon said. People with higher BMIs lose faster in the beginning. That is the only thing I can think of as to why your surgeon said that, but you don't have a ticker, so I don't know. Or maybe I am a slow loser and don't know it! Do you track your foods? Many of us here use myfitnesspal.com and it works great. That will help you know how many carbs you are consuming, but most importantly if you are meeting your Fluid and Protein goals. (There is nothing wrong with bananas.) Best wishes!
  10. My sister in law had the bypass 7 years ago and never got to goal. I estimate she missed it by 25 to 30 pounds. She lost and has maintained a 140 pound loss. She never wanted to exercise (which I don't condone), but yet she is an energizer bunny type person. She never stops. She now has a better half, a child and feels incredibly happy. I consider her a success story. Has she had a perfect journey? No. Should she exercise for health reasons? Yes. Does that mean she is not a success story? Heck no! I do think we should all strive for goal, but to me, it is not an "all or nothing" situation.
  11. It must be so strange for "outsiders" to see us watching cooking shows and talking about food constantly after having our stomachs cut out. You would think that should be the last thing we want to do! We know it is common, but he doesn't. I think that made him feel scared for you. He probably thinks food still has a stronghold on you. You will prove him wrong and I suspect he will be super happy for you!
  12. I have been looking for you every few days and I missed this thread! Glad to see you are doing well! Congratulations!!!!
  13. Congratulations to all !!!!! Very exciting news!
  14. Not TMI at all. Great info. Thanks!
  15. Pear shape is great. I'm an apple and I am jealous! :smile1: You look great!
  16. I didn't have any pain, however I did have to sip 6 times out of an ounce cup versus the three recommended. That lasted for a few weeks. Try much smaller sips and see what happens. Also to this day (I am 8 wks out) I don't drink cold liquids or plain water. I drink it room temperature or warm and always flavored. (Powerade Zero, Sobe 0, Mio etc). Cold liquids or plain water makes feel the way you described. When in doubt call the nurse at your surgeons office.
  17. I agree with this. Andersonlj you were called rude on another post and I agreed with that too. I don't know what is happening to you. The other day I thought one of your posts was so sweet to a fellow poster that I mentioned it on one of my posts. I am here shaking my head. There is a fine line between being honest and rude. I walk that line everyday and hope that I don't cross it. You are crossing it.
  18. I am not an expert, but I think the answer to this is YES! Try posting a new thread about this to see what others say.
  19. I guess it's the glass half full or half empty thing. I lost 19.5 the first month and I was and am VERY happy. I think that is an incredible amount of weight! It's not even close to what I was able to lose before and most importantly, I have better chances of keeping it off. I am really trying to enjoy the journey and shed all this mental anguish and pressure. I wish the same to you. :smile1:
  20. Isn't 600-800 calories too low? Especially on exercise day. I am not sure though. Hopefully someone can comment in regards to this.
  21. My surgery was through my belly button and I didn't have to do a pre-op diet. Anyone with a 40 BMI or lower does not get a pre-op diet at my surgeons practice.
  22. Do you put it in the blender? How much water? I just put it in the blender with 8 ounces of water and it "puffed" up to about 20 ounces. (I haven't tasted it yet. I am letting it sit for a bit).
  23. Thanks everyone! I wasn' sure if the runners shoe store carried cross trainers. I will check Orthaheel, New Balance and the runners stores suggested by Geewhy. Geewhy, I do live in the Jax area. I will check those websites. Thanks!
  24. I have the nose thingys and I sleep on my side all the time. It sometimes wakes me up for a second or two while I adjust my head or pull the tube, but I wake up refreshed and that is priceless. My heart and brain like oxygen. Like Lissa said "it takes time and effort to get used to it". You have to want to make it work. Take it slow. The first few weeks I used it for only 4 hours per night. I would take it off on my way to the bathroom and not put it back on. I slowly increased that and eventually slept the whole night for a few months before surgery and 3 weeks after surgery. After that I got very nauseos and couldn't eat or drink much. My surgeon and I figured out it was the Cpap filling me with air. I had the air pressure reduced but haven't used it again. My husband says I no longer snore but I will have another sleep study to confirm I am ok. Good luck. I hope it works out for you!
