    Chicken Salad Recipies

They do sell a fat free mayo that is delicious. It's made by Kraft and is yummy!

    Pureed foods

I eat all my fish normally. It is so soft the doc said I didn't need to puree it. I found that Ocean Market Tilapia and Sole, even their teriyaki salmon were delicious. They are really cheap here in Idaho as well. I get 4oz of any of them for $1. I just use pam spray, salt, pepper, and either ms dash lemon pepper or a new one I just found from McCormick called Perfect Pinch Roasted Garlic and Bell Pepper. It is soooooooo yummy!

Online Calorie Counter or Food Journal?

I use lapband.com. I love it! I can input the nutrition facts on any food I eat. It keeps track of my weight lose, I can measure my body and watch the changes. I can enter my fill appts. It also lets me print out a questionaire on what I need to remember to ask my doc before my appts. It gives me a pie graft so I know what proportions of protien, carbs and fat I eat and it calculates all my food for the day. I absolutely love it! I also can add 5 friends or family members as my support people and when I hit certain goals they get an email and can send me messages. It has helped me tons!

    Pureed foods

I was on pureed for 4 weeks. My doc is a little different I am finding out. Was on liquid for 3 weeks after surgery then the puree for 4 weeks. Just had my fill on Wednesday and back to liquid for 2 days now on pureed for 2 days then I finally get to eat real food on Sunday. I am soooooo excited! Also another thing I was not allowed during pureed was chicken, beef, rice or noodles. So I had to get creative. I did have tilapia, salmon, sole, or blue hake every day. I also had egg beaters every morning. I also did he low fat ricotta and spaghetti sauce, refried Beans, and mashed potatoes. I found a wonderful cottage cheese that saved my life! It is by darigold and it has smashed pineapples already added. Delicious! I also had pickled beets. They are so soft that I jus chewed them really well and they were mushed. I did the same thing with Bush's baked beans. They mush real well with your tongue. I did the vegi version so I didn't have to deal with the hunk of bacon in them. They also have a few less calories. One of my favs was blending califlower after I steamed it with a bit of ff milk and some light butter. Yummy! I also found that if I boiled potatoes a little more than you would for potato salad I could still make potato salad that was easy to mash with my tongue and teeth. I just used potatoes, a hard boiled egg and mashed real well, some goldens brown mustard, and some ff mayo. It was nice to have when I got sick of eating hot food. I know all these things - beans, potatoes, etc have a lot of carbs in them and some have more fat but if you make sure you measure and eat only the serving size and keep track of how many calories you are eating you will still lose weight. I lost about 2 lbs a week while I followed this diet. My doc said usually people gain during the mushies so don't freak if you do. Now that I had my first fill I have notice a huge difference in the last 2 days. I haven't eatten much! I am so happy. I feel great! All total since May 24th when I started my presurgery diet I have lost 44lbs. Most of which I lost after surgery on June 28th. I hope some of these ideas work for you and anyone else out there with mushie worries!

Burning sandpapery feeling in the chest?

Hey! I just had my first fill on Wednesday the 17th. I don't know how big my band is. I never thought to ask that. I definitely will at my next appt. Anyway, the doc said I had 3cc in the band when it was installed. I had 3cc's injected on Wednesday. He had me drink Water to see if it would flow threw and it did but slowly. I did my 2 days of liquids and am now on my first day of mushies. I noticed during the liquid stage I didn't really have a full sensation, probably due to it all just passing through. So on liquids I just have to stop myself. I have noticed I don't eat as much as before this started which probably means my stomach has shrunk some. This morning though was a whole different ballgame. Before my fill I was able to do about 3/4 cup of eggbeaters for Breakfast. This morning I had a hard time with 1/4 cup. I thought I chewed well enough but it was a little painful going down. I have noticed when I start getting a feeling of a golf ball in my throat right above my shoulder bones/ribs I need to stop. At that point I know I am full. My brain wants me to keep eating though because it tastes good. That is something I hope will change with time. I just love the taste of food (hence my whole problem!). I have also noticed if I eat slower and just stop for a bit that I really am not hungry. That helps as well. I hope this helps you some! Good luck!

    1st fill!!!

Hey we are Band-Day sisters!! I got my band (installed - he,he) on June 28th as well. I just had my first fill on the 17th. He origionally told me that I had an empty band and at my appt told me that he was adding 3 so that would put me at 6. I was like - I thought it was empty. He said it was, but that what was in he tubing was at 3. I am very happy so far. I haven't been hungry at all! I was a little nervous but he found the port easily. It just felt like a sharp pinch and that was it. I hope it is always that easy! I am very happy with my decision to do this. So far I have lost 44lbs. I look and feel like a new person. I love my new chicken legs and I now only have one chin! 56 more lbs to go, then I will see if I need a tummy tuck. If things don't start tightening up pretty soon I know for sure I will have to do it. Anyone have any tricks to help tighten saggy skin? Also I have noticed lots of people put the weight ticker on their posts. I have checked the site out but can't figure out how to add it to my posts. Tips please!!v Happy Banding!
  8. Hello all! Just went to the doctor for my 3 week visit last Wednesday and was told I had to stay on the puree diet for 4 weeks. Then I would get my first fill and had to go back on full liquids for 3 days then puree for 3 days. It feels like this will never end! I was also told not to expect to lose to much weight if any for at least 1 1/2 months. I haven't lost (or gained any weight in 6 days) and it's depressing. I feel very limited on what I can eat that is low fat/low carb/low calorie. I'm not allowed any chicken, beef, rice, noodle (even if they were pureed) until after the fill. I eat 1 piece of fish daily and the only other thing that is helping me stay full is beans. My intestines aren't my friend! Beans are high calories and carbs so I find that I am eating more calories than I origionally set my goal at. Anyone have any good puree recipes that follow my doctors rules? I find that I am constantly thinking of food and my next meal. Help!

    Food Frustration

Ricotta and spaghetti sauce sounds wonderful! I'm going shopping tomorrow. Thanks!

    Food Frustration

My puree goes between soft mashed tatos, baked tilapia and scrambled egg soft. I put everything else in the blender with some liquid so that is slides down very easily. I was told I could eat tilapia and salmon as long as they are tender, not dry and I chew them like crazy. It helps to keep you full. I use egg substitue like egg beaters instead of real eggs so eat less calories.

    Food Frustration

Thanks so much for the support! I will give both options a try (well except the chicken). I love black eyed peas though!!
  12. Hey all! Six days post-op and still excited. I'm getting a bit scared though. I have not been able to get more than 24 grams of Protein in since the surgery. I tried a protein shake 2 days ago with peanut butter hoping to soup the amount up but ended up with horrible chest pain for the rest of the day. Figured it was the peanut butter so yesterday I just went with a ready made EAS Carbcontrol Protein shake yesterday and ended up with chest pain pretty much all day but thought it might have been the Cream of Broccoli soup (yes blended). Today I had 6 oz of the same shake I had yesterday and I'm dying of the chest pain again. I haven't been able to drink more than 5 cups of anything - soup, broth, shake. So needless to say I have not been getting hardly any water due to the feeling I need calories and protien more. Any suggestions? I so hope this won't last forever. I so want this to work. I have an ice pack on my belly and a heating pad on my chest. This seems to be helping a tad. HELP!!
  13. Hello all, I am 4 days post-op and already I am sick of the liquids. I have had beef and chicken broth, tomato soup, cream of mushroom soup, cream of potato soup (of course these have been blended so no mini chuncks), cream of wheat, and yogurt. Does anyone have any good recipes that will help me deal with this portion of my recovery for the next few weeks. I have to stay strong and I like to play in the kitchen. It also doesn't help that my husband is a manager for Schwans Food Company! Thanks in advance for all the help! Tina

Need Recipes for Liquid Post Op Diet

Thank you for all the options! I found out today that I don't tolerate peanut butter in protien shake form. Having major chest pains. I'm sipping beef broth now hoping it will melt the pb and stop the pain!
  16. Seem to be hungry a lot! Any tips or suggestions?

    Not eating much

I've been doing MUCH better today!! Pain has been at port site and on top and right incisions. I coughed up some junk which helped me breath better (didn't feel to good). I have been drinking pretty good today. Occasionally my esophagus feels full and a bit painful but it only lasts for a few seconds, kind of like food is going up then down again. It makes me scared like it may get stuck. My stomach has been growling like crazy so I decided to try some cream of wheat. It was wonderful! Slid down easily and seemed to satisfy me. I will continue with the water and try some popsicles. Thanks all and I hope everyone is doing well today! (please disregard spelling, my spellcheck isn't working) ;o)
  18. I was banded yesterday at 11am. Had lots of pain and some nauesa. After being in lots of pain all morning (my husband was giving me 1tsp of meds instead of the prescribed 1tbsp) we figured out what the problem was and I am much improved pain-wise. I am taking a anti-nauesa as well every 4 hours or so. I haven't been able to eat much yesterday or today. Yesterday I had 1/4 cup of chicken broth and that was it. Today I had 1/4 cup protien shake, about 1 cup of chicken broth, and 2 baby spoons of jello. I just tried to eat some more broth but I am nauesous now and could only do about 1/4 of a cup again. Can I get sick in the first few days from not eating enough? What has been ya'lls experiences? Thanks!

    Not eating much

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm up and trying to down some protien shake. I took some nauesa med with it to hopefully avoid that. My stomach has been grumbling since last night. I will try to get more water today. Thanks all and talk to you later.

Sorry you have been hurting! Since we got the med situation under control I have been feeling much better. I have had a lot of nauesa though so I have been taking the Zofran. I called my drs office today and asked if I could take something else for pain and they said I could take liquid ibuprophen so I have been taking that every 4 hours as well. I haven't been able to eat much and I have been a little worried about that. I'm gonna start another topic about that and get some advice. I was able to eat about 1/4 cup of my protien shake and about a cup of broth. I also had about 3 small spoons of Jello. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I know I'm not getting enough liquids in. Let me know how you are. I am so excited I have a friend going through this with me. Talk to you tomorrow. sleep well!
  21. I am sooo excited and a little nervous. I am getting banded tomorrow, June 28th. I have been checking out all the posts here and feel so much better because of you all. Thanks for all the advice!! See you all on the other side!

Surgery went well. Pain was horrible and had some nausea so they kept me til 10pm. Went and got meds at pharmacy after left hospital and the pharmacist gave my husband a spoon to use for the meds. Unfortunately he just figured out that is it tsp not tbsp so I have been in excrusiating pain all night and day. He just gave me the correct dose so hopefully I will be in drug heaven soon!

    Finally There

I am so excited! I am scheduled to have my band installed on June 28th. My husband and I were joking the other day about our anniversary which is on Friday. I told him he needed to get a new model and he said he didn't need one because he was getting an upgrade. I am a bit nervous because this is so life changing but I feel like I am getting a new life. I hope all of you that are waiting to have yours don't have to wait to long!

    Hello from Wiesbaden, Germany

Hi! My husband is retired from the Army and we have Tricare. I have been approved through insurance for everything except the nutristionist. They paid for the psyc consult and the surgeon. Since you will be doing this on a military facility you should be fully covered. I am scheduled to have my surgery on June 28th. I am sooooooooooo excited! Oh and my husband and I were both stationed in Hanau, Germany back in 94. I so miss Germany! Keep in touch! Tina
