About 3 years before I was banded I was on Meridia for a year. I lost 80 pounds. I loved it. But of course, as soon as I went off the Meridia... The weight jumped back on. One year was the longest my PCP would prescribe the drug.
  2. Ginny - I suspect your PB incident might be more due to the mashed potatos than the chicken... I always had trouble with mashed potatos.
  3. I have not gone to any of those chats, so can't say what they're like...
  4. The AVERAGE projected/expected weightloss with the band is 1-2 pounds a week - that's 4-8 pounds A MONTH. So 12 pounds is FOUR POUNDS MORE than the expected average. This is not the bypass! Weightloss is usually slower and more reasonable. Yes, some people lose more much faster, but they are usually working very hard at it with diet and exercise. Whatever you can KEEP doing forever will keep your lost weight off. However, if you diet and exercise your butt off with the intention of it being short time (like all the times before) you will start gaining weight back when you revert to your "normal" way of life. The band helps you eat less without feeling hungry. Making healthy choices as to what we eat and how we exercise is completely up to us - but the changes we make need to be PERMANENT, or our weightloss will NOT be...
  5. Good luck, Nancy!! Welcome back to restriction land!

    Whoo hoo!!!! Congrats, Tina!!!
  7. Whoo hoo! You did it, Paula!
  8. Uhhh... No one is trying to silence you. The thread has not been locked, as Alex states in her post prior to yours. You did, in fact, post again. And yet you did not post any info, just a complaint about being shut down... Which you weren't... ????
  9. Uhhh... Yeah, I think you've made that pretty clear, Miss Drool Rags... lol
  10. Hey Cutie-Patootie! Sorry I didn't think to send you a smaller version of the two of you! Here you go! P.S. Love the boa!!
  11. Hi All - For those of you who are interested, I got this announcement from Spotlight Health today: Dear Community Members, In this month's chat, we'll be discussing why weight loss with the LAP-BAND is typically more gradual than with the gastric bypass. How do you determine when you should reach your goal weight? And what should your goal weight be, anyway? Is 50% of your excess body weight a good result? Dr. Helmuth Billy, a board-certified surgeon from Ventura, California, discusses how to gauge your success and the importance of setting realistic expectations. The chat will be held Tuesday, August 10, at 6 p.m. PST / 9 p.m. EST. Note new time! To participate, log on to http://www.spotlighthealth.com and go to the Morbid Obesity chat page. To submit your questions ahead of time, simply email us at webmaster@spotlighthealth.com. We look forward to chatting with you soon! Best of Health, Spotlight Health
  12. The bold marking is seperate from the quote marking. Choose "edit" on your post where the quote worked, and you will see the "tags" that define how the text is displayed. [ QUOTE ] (without spaces) starts the quote, and puts the lines. At the end of the quote there is [ /QUOTE ] (without spaces) which turns the quote off, and puts the upper and lower lines. If you're missing a bracket, stuff won't work. To turn on bold, it's [ B ] (without spaces) and then [ /B ] (without spaces) to turn it off. Again, if you are missing brackets, or the beginning/ending commands, you won't get the correct results. HTH.
  13. lol... So you can see the overflowing fat at the top of the jeans??? uhhhh... we'll seee...... P.S. Kellymoos - did you get your Flaunts yet? How are they working for you?
  14. BF doesn't know yet - he's still living in Germany. I just sent him an email about it. He left those new pants here (they still have the tags on them) - not sure why, but he was trying to cut down on his luggage. Anyway, hopefully by the time he moves in mid-September I can wear them without popping the buttons off and killing innocent bystanders... lol
  15. My first NSV posting!!! Not that I haven't had them, but THIS one is something I have been waiting for for a long time... This morning I PUT ON MY BF'S BRAND NEW JEANS AND THEY FIT!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, I SO wanted to be able to do that when I went to visit him a couple months ago, but I was at least an inch away from them buttoning. Okay, they are skin tight, but STILL!!! They're Rustlers 40x30 REGULAR CUT straight leg jeans. And I had them ON. OMG OMG OMG!! Here's the weird thing, too... I could have sworn I tried them on a month or so ago, and still couldn't get them buttoned. My weight has basically stablized since April 12th - it ranges from 201-213 between then and now.... My low is posted as 201, but I was 207.5 this morning. I was 211.5 the day I flew off to Europe in April - when the pants were at LEAST an inch too small at the waist. So for those of you for whom the scale is not moving, I'M TELLING YOU - the body does secret compacting stuff, even when the scale doesn't move. A gal who's only worked here a month and a half caught me in the bathroom yesterday and said, "You've been losing a LOT of weight, haven't you?!" I laughed, because when she started 6/21 I was 204.5. Yesterday I was 208. But I AM smaller - I can feel it in my clothes. This comment from her was based on her observations over the past month and a-half only - NOT on previous knowledge of my weightloss history. I'm not working out, so it can't be muscle shrinking my body but replacing the weight... So I don't know why, I don't know how, and I don't really care... I'm still shrinking, no matter what the scale says. So there, scale!
  16. Ahhhh... But if I DON'T use the "home" button, but click back to the beginning of the path that's listed above the new post box (i.e. LapBandTalk.com Forums >), I DON'T get logged out, and can click on the "View New Posts" again before I choose to mark everything read. Okay, I just have to change my process... Still scratching my head, but this will work, I guess!
  17. No, not a cookie issue. I even went to advanced options and specifically APPROVED Cookies from LBT, regardless of any other settings. This is happening to me on my other computer, as well... ????? Very frustrating.
  18. Sultana - send your pic to me and I'll fix you up. remove spaces: donali @ mindspring .com
  19. Hi Paula - Many docs don't have a pre-fill "diet" - probably best not to eat RIGHT before your fill, but if you give enough time between your meal and your fill there shouldn't be much in your pouch anyway. It is more likely that you felt too tight after your fill because of residual swelling than because you'd eaten before. The stomach is a sensitive, cranky organ, and most people's don't appreciate being manipulated in anyway, and reacts with a slight swelling.

I SO agree with this... but at the same time, I think MO isn't treated the same way because NO one can agree on the "cure". And since everyone "knows" that caloric intake is pretty much key, in one way or another, MO people are just directed to a diet. THAT DOESN'T HELP. So what DOES help? For me, it was compulsive overeating therapy. And then the band, which helped reinforce the compulsive overeating therapy. Most MO people do NOT want "therapy" - they want to fix the symptoms - they think of MO as a physical problem, and so does 90% of the rest of the world. Anorexia is seen as a mental problem - so, they get help. Anyone out there willing to admit that MO is a MENTAL problem, and to get help through therapy? Some of us have... But most of us resist changing our mental outlooks, and resort to "I just need something to help me eat less." Good therapy may do that. I personally DO believe that for many MO people there is a malfunction between the full signal and the full receptors. But being banded, and KNOWING I was not hungry, and actually physically full, but still DRIVEN to eat PROVED to me that whatever physical malfunctions I may or may not have, I definitely had a psychological component to my MO. Just "food" for thought...
  21. Looking for Megan's article, finding these: http://www.mcneese.edu/sports/weight/hyrdration.htm Partial rip-off of Dr. Robinson's article, plus tips on how to get your Water in: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=19771 OMG! I just came across a personal site promoting anorexia and giving support to remain anorexic... Wow... Megan, I couldn't find your article!! But a couple things I ran across debunked the cold water raising metabolism theory, but ran across MORE that endorsed it - if not for the metabolism part, for the body absorption part. Hot, warm or cold - water rocks!!

So this is NOT just some whacky theory I made up all by myself. Whoo hooo!!! Bright, you are always missed. How was your vacation?!?! xxoo
