  1. I have been having butternut squash soup. It has made me feel full and actually made me feel like I was eating real food. The yogurt, pudding, and cream soups felt more like a snack. Sometimes I don't know if I'm hungry or if its head hunger. My tummy always grumbles and makes noises!
  2. I used gas x strips. But what helped the most was all the walking. Walking and burping felt wonderful!
  3. Wow! I am so thankful for the insurance that I have. With the kaiser plan that I have I did not have any co pay for surgery and my meds are 15.00. I would talk to the doc for sure to see if there was anything cheaper. I'm on prilosec.
  4. I am about 10 days post op and I still can't get in all of my fluids. I have the same feeling that you get when drinking, where once I burp I feel better. I think we are drinking too fast, too much or intaking too much air. I'm getting maybe 40oz of water a day though. As the above poster said, I check my urine color to make sure it isn't dark. I also go to the bathroom less frequently.
  5. Congrats! That is awesome! Normal here you come!

Congrats on your sleeve date. It will be here before you know it!
  7. I am one week out and im on full liquids. When I am eating I have to eat really slow and even then I get full after about 1/4 cup of pudding or yogurt. When Drinking water I can drink a few sips at a time but then need to wait at least 5 mins before sipping again. When I drink water too fast or too much at one time I feel really bloated and icky. the max amount of water that I have been able to get in a day is about 36 ounces. I try for more but because I have to wait an hour after eating that limits my sipping time and I have been napping a lot as well! I am not dehydrated though.
  8. Your body is still healing and going through the major shock of surgery. It takes time for your body to even out. Eating as little as we do the first few weeks, I think (my opinion only) that our bodies go into starvation mode and hang on to every calorie of food that passes our lips. Some people have said that even when they aren't losing weight, they are still losing inches off their body. Perhaps you can try doing your measurements and see if that gives you an encouragement boost. Also, we don't gain weight overnight so we sure aren't going to lose it overnight. You have lost about 13 pounds post op. That is over 4 pounds a week. You are still doing good. Would you be losing 4 pounds a week without the sleeve? If your mom is expecting a miracle weight loss in 3 weeks then I think she is being unrealistic. I am sure that your mom will be proud of what you have accomplished in so little amount of time. I am only a week out from being sleeved but I know that when I get to my first stall I will feel disapointment in myself. We just have to remember to try and stay positive.
  9. I have not had any issues with stomach acid yet. I am taking the Doctor prescribed prilosec twice a day in pill form. Before I started this process I used to get heartburn quite frequently, but with losing weight pre-op and changing my diet that has all but went away. I am still on full liquids so once I am able to eat actual food, that may change. I will let you know!
  10. I think the thing that keeps me on the right track is knowing that if I eat something I am not supposed to, I can develop a leak. I guess so far the fear has been enough to keep me in check. Though I am sure once my staple line is healed I will have a harder time, but for now it is working. But then I am at least on full liquids and only had to be on Clear Liquids for 3 days after surgery. If I was stuck having Jello and broth for two weeks I might have gone mad! Good luck! I think that we were both sleeved on the same day, Monday Dec13th, so it will be nice to have someone going through this at the same time!
  11. Congrats! You look awesome! I hear you about the boob thing. I have lost a total of 48 pounds...36 pre-op and 12 post-op. So far my boobs are still there and look good. But once I lose additional weight I am sure they will be going bye bye. I have to wait and see how my body turns out on whether or not I need to get plastic surgery. Well I should say that I am sure that I will need it, just don't know if I will want it enough to go through the pain or spend the money! Keep up the great work!
  12. Have you tried SF Popsicles? I can kind of chew on those which seems to make me happy. Altough I did not know that the sugar free would cause gas? That could explain a lot!

  14. Yes I take the meds as needed. I am not superwoman and I don't need to be! I am going for the liquid tylenol today and see how that treats me!

Well today is exactly one week from my surgery. I started out this process at 291. When I went in for surgery I was 255. When I stepped on the scale today I am at 243! So I have lost a total of 48 pounds since I began this journey back at the end of September. I have lost 12 pounds since surgery. So far everything has been really good. I am able to eat and drink and not get sick. Last night though I was getting stomach cramping after eating and also when I was drinking water. But this morning it hasn't happened. TMI...my BMs are weird. Liquid in and liquid out and all that jazz. I have heard to never trust a fart this early out and I do believe that is great advice! Back to a more pleasent topic....I finally have been able to sleep in my bed on my side. So the first few days I was sleeping in a comfy chair will like 8 pillows! I also was able to wash and dry my own hair this morning with little pain and discomfort. I have super long and thick hair so it is a pain! It has been raining cats and dogs here in Northern California so I haven't really been able to walk outside. Last night though there was a break in the weather so I went for a midnight walk and it was lovely. I also have gone to the mall to walk around which is okay just to get out of the apartment. I have one more week off from work so I want to relax and make the most of it! Each day gets better and better. I can't wait for next week when I should be able to start pureed foods. It will be amazing once I am back to eating regular foods and still lose weight!
  16. Congrats!!! That is AWESOME!!!!!
  17. Congrats! That is an awesome weight loss! Hawaii here you come!
  18. Congrats! I am only a week out but can't wait until the pureed stage!

I understand how you are feeling. My surgery was a week ago. Today has been a rough day. I am in pain. I think that I might have overdid the walking by going to costco yesterday and the mall today. I walked really slow but when I got home I was really tired and my right side hurt. I only had to be on clear liquids for 3 full days. I can now have pudding, yogurt and cream of soups. They are good to eat but I have to go real slow. I am still have problems with getting all of my liquids in. You are right that the mental aspect is what is hard. When I have a craving I eat a SF popsicle. That seems to help. Be careful if you are going to have oatmeal, I would suggest cream of wheat first or yogurt. Something really thin but thicker than water. Just to try out your sleeve. And eat really really slow. I have a lot of gas and air after I eat, I guess I am ingesting too much air with each bite. I walk after I eat and that help a little. I tried to wean off the pain meds but no luck. My program doesn't suggest protein shakes..I don't know why but I mix in some protein powder with my pudding to help out. I have until the 28th with full liquids. Then hopefully will get to move on to pureed! Good luck!
  20. First off let me say that I think that it is great that you are trying to be supportive and researching the sleeve on your own. I have been sleeved since Monday, Dec 13th so I am not an expert by any means. I have dieted in the past and had even lost 45 pounds at once time, primarily by exercising. I had always had problems with my portion control, which was one of the reasons this surgery appealed to me. I felt like I was always hungry. Now I don't really feel hungry, Im not sure if it is because I am only 6 days out or if it will become a permanent thing, but it is wonderful. I eat less than 1/4 cup of pudding or yogurt and stop. I may be able to eat more but I never want to get ill from eating too much and hurting my newly healing sleeve. Every person has the choice on how they want to eat. If you choose to cheat and eat bad or too much you will be sick. If you continue to do it then you have more of an emotional problem with food and should seek help. But if you learn from your mistake or have not made one then I think that the sleeve has assisted you. Has your mom gone through the whole process yet? Pre-op diet, testing and all of that? Does she know anyone who has had the surgery? It is not an easy way out. You still have to make the right choices. This is not a reversible decision. When you talk to her make sure that she understands that you are supportive, but want to fully understand the risks and changes that will need to be made. Having postive support makes all of the difference. Sorry i just read this back to myself and I was a little all over the place...i'm still on pain meds :0) Good luck!
  21. Congrats! The first week is the hardest...at least in my opinion. I was sleeved on Monday so I am only 6 days out. I am still taking my pain meds and walking as much as I can. I still have gas and can feel it moving through me. My tummy also grumbles and makes noises a lot. I had nasuea as well the first day really bad. But since then have been good. I sip, sip sip all day long. It is hard to get in more than 40 oz of water though. I can now have full liquids but only eat a tiny bit, less than 1/4 of a cup and then I am done. Just remember to take it easy. I try to do too much then realize ouch, I need to sit down! Also, the gas x strips helped me a bunch. Walking was the best thing though, even when I don't want to, I walk just in circles around the apartment (its been raining here for a few days). Good luck and hang in there. It gets better each and every day!
  22. Happy Birthday! Hope you are having an amazing day!
  23. Congrats!!! My surgery was dec 13th at 1:20pm. I got there early, around 10am...we live about 2 hours from the hospital, and someone decided to be a no-show so they moved my surgery up to 11:20! So I know how you feel about the late surgery time. That day goes by super fast though. Good luck!
