Vacation after surgery
Not sure they'll let you bring protein shakes into the country. You may need to check on that.

Band to bypass approved today
That is just wonderful news. I am so happy for you and excited that you're having success with your revision. Personally, I'm tired of waiting. I refuse to pay for this myself since my insurance policy clearly covers revisions. They're just thinking that I won't pursue it the same as many others -- but they don't know who they're messing with. I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL! I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL! I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL!

Band to bypass approved today
Did insurance pay for your revision, if I may ask? If you only had the last 20 LBs to lose, did you have problems getting approved? Co-morbidities? I have 65 LBs to lose with major GERD, asthma, arthritis, knee replacement, kidney cancer, pre-diabetic, high lipids, horrible back pain, not to mention vomiting and sliming even with all restriction removed--yet have been told by UHC the revision is not medically necessary but "patient failure." I've hired Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy to handle my appeal, but am curious about your history. You look quite beautiful in your photo! Thanx! I was self pay for my band and for my revision. I had my band unfilled and had to gain 40 pounds to qualify to be revised (crazy) but I did it and lost all the 40 plus 30 more. I was revised because my band had eroded. The band was a success for me until then. Best money I ever spent. I look it like this.. Most people don't bat an eye to buy a new car but to invest in your body is crazy.. I find my body the very best thing to invest in. I could drive a junk car and wouldn't care. Well you look absolutely amazing.

The gears are finally turning.......but slower and in which direction ? Surgery possible by years end.
If you have UHC, be prepared for possible denial the first, possibly even second time. BUT DO NOT give up! I REPEAT: DO NOT GIVE UP!!! UHC is notorious for denials thinking the insurer will give up! If your policy states WLS is covered, they can not refuse to pay. I am fighting with them now for a revision from band to bypass. I've had to hire Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy to appeal and they are very confident--no promises, mind you, but this is what they do. Please let me know how it goes and I will keep you posted as well.

You contact Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy and consult with them before you give up!!! Trust me. They are able to find loopholes and interpret policies that we can't.

What's the status of your appeal? Curious since I hired Lindstroms a month ago and haven't heard yet.

KEEP FIGHTING! you deserve this. Anyone that is willing to change their lives for the better deserves this. And I know you do. I'm here if you ever want to chat, vent, whatever. Kelley and Walter are fantastic as you know. I know they will get it over turned for you. Do not give up!!! Contacted Kelly today and it's been almost 4 weeks. No appeal filed yet because they had to obtain my records which took awhile and then Walter was out of town this week. I'm so anxious but trying to be patient. They are such kind, compassionate people! Looking forward to that incredible appeal letter and praying for a positive result!

Tears of joy-Onederland!
So totally happy for you! Still waiting for my appeal to be overturned so I can have the revision from band to bypass. I'm so discouraged! Hate the waiting! Had to hire Walter Lindstrom to handle my appeal with UHC. Don't know how much longer I can go on!!!

How do you deal with cramps?
NSAIDS CAN CAUSE ULCERS! People who have had gastric bypass or the sleeve for that matter are prone to ulcerations around the staples if not careful. Therefore, to lessen that risk, it is definitely a "no no" to take NSAIDS. Tylenol is a better choice if you need pain relief although it has no anti-inflammatory component.

How do you deal with cramps?
My husband, who btw does not have a weight problem, nearly died from a bleeding ulcer 6 weeks ago after years of ibuprofen use for a back problem! He lost so much blood that his hemoglobin dropped to 5 and he was in heart failure. I understand completely why its use is "forbidden" with bariatric surgery! Don't chance it! Stay away from NSAIDS!!!!!

Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?

1st Appt 6/16, deciding on a procedure
Great advice! Do what you feel is best for you. I have chosen bypass revision after failed band because of the "head hunger" -- also, if one tends to suffer from reflux, I was told sleeve wouldn't be a wise choice. Just waiting now for my insurance appeal.

Kelley and Walter are fantastic as you know. I know they will get it over turned for you. Do not give up!!! I'm so anxious I can hardly stand it! I feel like I'm getting fatter everyday. Have so much trouble breathing from asthma and just being way too heavy. Pray everyday for help and try to stay positive, but it's hard! Fear of another denial crosses my mind and it terrifies me!!! Spoke to Kelly again on Friday and they're obtaining all of my records from the bariatric surgeon, orthopedic surgeon, and kidney surgeon. Waiting is so very difficult. If approved, I hope to have the surgery asap as I have so much business travel coming up mid September. Would appreciate good thoughts from my new friends!
