  1. Continue to speak up for yourself mlm, that is how you will get this done. When my doctor applied to MSI for me at that time they wanted 3 of what they consider serious health issues for me is was Blood pressure and basically just simply over weight so I was denied the first time. Within a year I developed type 2 diabeatis so she reapplied for me and I was accepted . So keep being an advocate for yourself and sadly sometimes we have to push our own family doctors to get this paper work rolling. Good luck.
  2. mlm, my own family doctor applied tp MSI for me , not my surgeon, unless something has changed in the past 2 years. There are now 2 doctors in NOva Scotia doing WLS so maybe they have made some changes because of the #'s of people looking to have surgery.
  3. I agree with the ladies, you have not failed, you are doing great, but it does sound like you need a fill. What does your band hold and how many cc's do you have in it to date? You have to remember this is a process that takes time. I had to be reminded of that regularly, I am 19 months banded , lost 108 and still want to lose about 40 more, it is slow but steady and I have never had a gain, my doctor is very pleased with my progress. Good luck.
  4. Is there a possibility you can apply to be reembersed? I was told that in New Brunswick they were going back 1 year . Check it out.
  5. Hi everyone, mlm, as you know I have been through the process with MSI, it is no use trying to call them. You need to have your family doctor apply to MSI for you, it is really that simple to start. You need to have a supportive family doctor to get the ball rolling. hi Argon nice to see you on the site again been a while for me as well. I sent you a private message hope you are doing well. Sherry
  6. no Doddie he did not say replace just reposition.
  7. Well folks because of forgetting the rules from time to time I have to have my Band repositioned. It has not slipped but I have developed a pouch above my band, the doctor is not sure entirely why but we suspect it is because of some vomiting due to eating to fast from time to time. So just want to send out a reminder to everyone out there be careful. Cheers and have a great weekend Sherry
  8. Thankyou you all for yur responses. Jaffa thanks a bunch for the hydration tip, I would never have know that. Sherrylynn
  9. I am just wondering if anyone out there has come up against any problems flying after being banded?
  10. KDan , I replied to your private message. Check your messages. Sherry
  11. Wait time for me with Dr. B was 2 years from the time my name went on his list to surgery day. Not so bad I thought.
  12. When I was having my first consult it was 55 across the board he must have change the banding age with the bmi of 60 or over.
  13. Pearl, one thing I forgot to mention is to keep in mind that DR.B does not do WLS on anyone over the age of 55.
  14. Annie, the $4500.00 is well worth it for how this procedure will change your life.
  15. I live in Sydney, would love to have a chat with you. This has been the best decision I have ever made for myself. It is not always easy but the benefits are fantastic. you can call me any time , When you are ready to chat let me know and I will PM you my ph#,Sherry
  16. Hi girls, Pearl I suggest you get all the preliminary paper work done asap, I mean approval from MSI for the procedure. And keep saving and have you band money in the bank. The total cost for the BAnd is 4500.00 and there is a charge of 250.00 for the anesthetiologist (spelling). Have your doctor get the approval now, it does not expire. Keep your name on Dr. B waiting list and if your turn comes up and you are not ready financially just tell Natalie and she will postpone you temporarily. MAybe possibly consider taking a small loan. Just some suggestions for you.Where in NOva Scotia are you from Pearl? Sherry
  17. The band I have was $4500.00.
  18. Pearl. did you get my reply to your private message?
  19. Thank you Pearl, I am glad someone else called to confirm it other than myself.
  20. Annie, I am simply saying that I don't want you to have your hopes up and be crushed . NS MSI does not pay for Lap BAnds for patients, they will cover the procedure only not the band itself, I don't need you to call me I am simply offering you a phone # to contact the lady I spoke with at MSI. I have been through the process I was banded a year ago, I don't want people out there thinking MSI Pays for The Lap Band, if they did there would be a lot more chatter about it on the WLS websites, and I check and read all the time , there is no chatter about it. Put it this way if NS was paying for banding the flood gates would be open and we all would be talking about it. Sherry
  21. I do hope the lady I spoke to was wrong, I have her phone # and name @ work if you would like me to send it to you. Honestly Annie I have never heard of anyone from NS being covered totally for LAp Band Surgery, Gastric Bypass yes, let me know if you want the name and # and I will private message it to you, when I called I specifically asked to speak with someone in the know on WLS in their office. I did have to leave a message on her voice mail and she did call me back promptly. NB started covering the Band for patients in that province earlier this year and the province was aslo reimbersing some patients that already had the procedure up to a certain date, that is why I am so intrested in NS MSI. Good luck
  22. Hi Annie, I am curious who you spoke with @ the MSI office, I phoned the office and spoke to a lady I have her name and # , I phoned for totally selfish reasons on my own part because I was hoping that NS MSI like New brunswick would give some rebate money back to self paying patients once they started covering the LAp band in that province earlier in 2008, but I was told that NS is not paying for the band itself they are still just covering the procedure, patients that are approved still need to pay for the cost of the band. And she also said that there are no plans in the immediate future for MSI to cover the cost of the LAp BAnd. Where did you get this info from? Thakns Sherry
  23. Annie55, to my knowledge Msi only pays for the procedure they do not cover the band yet. New Brunswick does now but I have not heard that the NS government has gotten on board yet. I was banded 1 year ago , I am a Nova Scotian and I paid for the band myself. Now, with that said unless something has happened very recently, I would love to know about it. Sherrylynn
  24. Sounds like you were not ready mentally to be banded. My question is, are you not affraid of something getting stuck? That scares the hell out of me because the last thing I want is a defill or the risk of slipage. keep talking to the successful banders, they are a wealth of info. I also suggest stay away from friends and family who like to eat out a lot. this 9is not easy for any of us. but please remember the band does work if you get to know it and use it properly. Best wishes , sherry
