  1. Hello everyone, I bought the Melatonin, but the last two nights have been so exhausted, I slept like a baby without it. I went back to work on Monday about 10 days post op. I have a physically demanding job of standing and walking a lot all day, so my body had had enough by Wed/Thursday and I have slept so good, it also may have something to do with eating regular food and the energy it takes to digest it, but after that wears off an I have to rely on a sleeping aid, I will let you know.. As I said, my sister is 4 months out and still has this terrible sleeping pattern.
  2. Do you think we are tired because we are running on "Old" stored fuel? If you used 20 year old fuel in your furnace, sure, it may run, but not without nearly conking out and being sluggish. All that sludge on the bottom will eventually get sucked through and you will be running on fresh calories. I have faith
  3. Hello everyone, unfortunately my Dr's visit was a fast one and I didn't get all my questions answered. The Dr was 40 mins late and in a rush. He wasn't my Dr. but a fill in. I spoke with the dietitian today. She said it is common and Shea you are correct, it has something to do with Ketosis. and should go away eventually . In the mean time, I can try Melatonin, but the pharmacist they work with said my sleep pattern is a good candidate for Ambien CR, but I am trying to get rid of prescription meds. So I bought some today, 10mg. I will let you know how they work. Thanks for all of your comments.
  4. Indymom, thank you for your condolences. I wanted to share with you that my surgeon also believes that VSG will one day be the Gold standard. Her success rate so far exceeds RYN. Of course they are selective and will not do this surgery on anyone with a BMI of 50 or higher. So therefore the success rate would be great. I too decided a long time ago that RYN was too dangerous for my liking and actually went to my first meeting to look into Lap Band, but the speaker spoke so positively about VSG which I had never heard of and after investigation, I never gave thought to anything else. So far, I am day 13 and feel terrific with the exception of not sleeping enough. Not sure , but I think I'm on a protein HIGH! I had tried low carb diets in the past and had the same issues.. :-(
  5. My sister who was sleeved on Aug 30th and now myself who was sleeved on Dec 28th both have trouble sleeping. I am used to being exhausted and sleep a good 8 hours a night, but since surgery, I wake after 5 hours and just can't go back to sleep. If I do get up for awhile and go back to bed I can get in another 2-3 hours. I am back to work now so I don't have the time to do back to bed. Does this ever change? Does anyone out there have a remedy? I blame it on all the Protein so I've been trying to get my daily requirements in before 2:00, but it didn't work last night. Bingo, 3:00 am and I am up for the day. Help!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. My insurance company require a 40 BMI for 24 months. Fortunately they use the very first weigh in at the nutritionist. I think your Dr would actually be pleased if you lost weight after that and before surgery. Your bariactric counselor would be the person to ask, get all the advice you can from them and bug the insurance company so that you meet their requirements as well. The best of luck
  7. Ok.... so I'll expect the worst and hope for the best. I plan on my first meal to be 2oz of cottage cheese, :-)
  8. I have already used the "I am just getting over a bug" excuse at a restaurant. Although the people I was with knew about my surgery. I'm curious to see what others have to say to you, since I may experience the same problem. I do know that out of courtesy, it's always nice to ask for water, just to fit in.
  9. Good morning. I am writing today to see how most of you are doing as far as consumption in the early stages of post surgery. I am only 11 days post op and still on liquids, but feel I am doing phenomenal. I have no problem getting in my required 64 oz"s of Water plus and usually get 45-55 grams of Protein per day. I can consume about 6 ounces of Soup, and did so last evening it was tomato sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. My question is that I have read in other forums about different nut requirements, one saying she is required to get 80 grams of protein a day. My nut said a man needs 70-80, but 40 is sufficient for a woman. I guess at this moment because I'm reading that some only can take in 2 oz's of protein and I can drink an entire Atkins drink of 11 oz's , that I may be over doing it already. Of course I haven't started solid food so that may change drastically. Fortunately for me, my Dr and nutritionist do not make us go to a "mushie" stage. We start right in with soft foods and I will be doing that on Wed. I do understand that I will be lucky to tolerate a couple bites with my new tummy, So I guess my concerns are that I am over doing it already. Am I just a fortunate case that didn't have a lot of swelling? I have never felt nauseous or vomited . I do eat very slow and fortunately for me, I have always been a slow eater.
  10. Peacequeen, hope you are doing better and maybe home settled into your bed and comfy environment. Prayers coming your way...
  11. I read my instruction booklet after reading all this. Mine say's that I am to drink 8 oz's for meals and 4 oz's for Snacks? I assume once I start solids and we do skip the mushy stage for some reason, I may not be able to consume so much. I read in here where some folks are struggling to get 2 oz's per meal. I feel fortunate that I am not having that problem, but can definitely tell when I' m hungry, my tummy gets moody. I've compared my new tummy to a new born baby and you have to go through the same steps as bringing a new born home. Another writer mentioned that may be the reason babies cry so much because their little tummies are adjusting too. Who knows who is correct, I think it's what is best for you.
  12. I am very confused, I am only 10 days post op, I can already and do eat 8 oz's of protien drink for Breakfast. I just finished about 6 ounces of tomato Soup with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese in it. I do use Iso pure protien and mix it with Water. It' 25 grams of protien. I' m getting all my water and about 40- 55 grams of protien a day. As of yet, I can tell when I am hungry and it's time to fill my tummy. Does this sound like to much? I am curious if your Dr was ok with Protein drinks until recently? My sister was told recently that she has to stop relying on the drinks and eat more protein enriched foods. She is 4 months post op, but is a finicky eater and hasn't progressed because of her taste buds. Do you think maybe your Dr is just trying to make you eat more dense protein?
  13. Is it like a small cluster of blisters? Usually if it is painful and a small area, it could be a case of shingles. I am not a nurse, but work in a Dr's office and at times of emotional or physical stress people sometimes will get a breakout of shingles. Just a suggestions. I broke out with cold sores after my surgery. I have NEVER had a cold sore in 54 years. You never know what your body will do. The best of luck
  14. I am new sleever, Believe me when I say this, you have done a spectacular job! You look fantastic and are a beautiful woman. You carry a certain sex appeal about you and an attitude that exudes confidence when you were larger and now. Keep up the Great work!! Sometimes pictures is the only reality we can see. I have a photo that my sister loved so much she had it made up special for me. I burst in to tears when she gave it to me, she thinking it was tears of joy, my tears were of sadness, because I had no idea that I had gotten that big. Yes, it was a beautiful photo of my husband and I, but the reality of what I had become was staring me in the face. Let your new photos show you just how much you have accomplished. Wear yourself proud.
  15. Thank you Lissa for your post, I am only 10 days post op but look forward to eating real food on Wed. Fortunately for me, my Dr and nut skip the mushy stage and go to soft foods. I also have seen the process having a sister who had this done 4 months ago. Her experiences should help me, hopefully. She used to eat way to fast and be both in pain and regurgitate . She now has things under control. I have also seen many good suggestions in here such as yours. :-)
  16. OMG, go home? How can you do that if you can't have anything by mouth for weeks?
  17. Hello kuntrystrong, I'm sorry that your experience wasn't as easy as others. As you know, in the end the results will be worth all the pain. You are doing this for a healthier future and longer life. Hopefully you will gain each day and have a good recovery. Welcome.
  18. Thank you again for your kind words , "confusing" is a very good descripition of how I feel. I will admit, I cried for two days before my surgery trying to make a decision and decided that my initial reasons were still there, they had not changed and that my friend was so excited that my final insurance appeal worked, I had to continue on my journey. It has been tough not being able to discuss my progress with her over the last 10 days. She would be proud of my choices:-)
  19. Cscake.....I am truly sorry for your loss, I'm sure that it was a horrific time for you. I had a friend in a gastric bypass complication situation on the day I was sleeved which was Dec. 28th. It was a very difficult choice that I had to make in continuing on with my journey. Unfortunately she too passed on Jan 3rd. I am happy that you could get past your daughters death and continue to get healthier I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss
  20. Congratulations.... What a great feeling... one hurdle at time..welcome to the world of sleevers, soon you will be on the losers bench..
  21. You made me laugh ..I think you can still take a nice "smell the roses " kind of 30 minute walk 5 days a week. :-)
  22. Hi Shea, pretty name... I'm surprised that you are able to do anything but walk at this point. My DR said no exercise at all but walking for 8-12 weeks. The elliptical is a pretty good aerobic exercise. Not to scare you, but just within the the last few days, I lost a good friend to a leak (gastric bypass) caused by what might have been to aggressive exercise too early. You are still healing for a minimum of six weeks, listen to your body and slow down. I know how badly you want the weight to come off and do things right, but you will lose and you will have plenty of time to work out and get toned. Please, Please take care of yourself. I'm not trying to be morbid, but my friend was only 44, her celebration of life is tomorrow and she was like a race horse out of the gate, wanted to do to much to fast. I wish you the best..
  23. You need to see your Dr. You may have a bowel obstruction or a twist in your bowel, lots of GI stuff can happen that only tests can show. Not to alarm you, but what you're saying is not normal for you, let the Dr figure it out. Feel better soon..
  24. Hello Peacequeen, ThinkIng of you and hoping this note finds you feeling better today and your silence is a sign of restful healing! Let us know that you're ok. Take care!
  25. Congratulations first on doing such a great job losing weight on your own. What a terrific job, be proud. you deserve the date, I' m sure it was a long time coming. The best of luck!
