Suegery Scheduled Nov 15th
Hi Ginny: My surgery is also scheduled for Nov. 15. I too have been very scared until I had a one on one talk with my surgeon today. He answered a lot of questions and put me at ease. My doctor recommends Atkins shakes and they taste wonderful - especially the vanilla. I started my pre-surgery liquid diet today. It's gonna be tough but my doctor emphasized the surgery will be safer for me (and him) if I shrink my liver and my stomach - so I have to be strong and don't cheat. Good luck to you, please keep in touch. Cindy

Cindy's Story
Hello Everyone! In 1983 I weighed 310lbs a the age of 18. I had a gastric segmetation (kind of like the lap band) and lost down to 157 lbs. Ten years later I started having complications and the band had to be removed. Within 2 yrs, I gained all the weight back plus. I am now 46 yrs old and weigh 347.5 lbs. Not only do I look awful but I feel awful. I am scheduled to have a VSG on 11/15/10 at Christus St. Elizabeth Bariatric Center in Beaumont, TX. For the last 2 weeks I have been on a 1,400 calorie diet and have managed to lose about 4 lbs. Tomorrow I start a 2 week liquid diet. Tomorrow is also my psych eval and appointment with surgeon. The anticipation for this surgery is eatng me alive. My family (teenagers) are not being very supportive. My job is giving me trouble about taking off two weeks for this surgery. I feel very frustrated. Need support please.......

Surgery 11/29....and I am nervous as hell....
I also feel the same. My surgery date is 11/15 and my husbands is 11/29. I should not be nervous as I have had several surgeries before but I think my last surgery (hysterectomy) scarred me for life. I am literally terrified of having this surgery just because of all the pain I went through with the hysterectomy. I know I am only supposed to have 3 small incisions but what if something goes wrong and he has to open me up? And on top of that, I had a gastric band back in 1983 (which had to be removed in 1993) so I have been through this before. Why am I so scared? I know once the surgery day gets here I will be okay but all his waiting is killing me. We need to stop thinkng about the "what if's" and think about how healthy we want to be. If we can just get through the 3 weeks prior to surgery and the 4 weeks after, I think we will be fine. Let's all hang in there, support each other and we WILL get through this fear. I will be happy to be an ear or a shoulder if you need one. You can either contact me here or a tmy personal e-mail. I need others support too. Good luck to you and please keep in touch.

Which Scales Do I Believe?
So frustrated! After being on this pre-surgery diet of 1400 calories a day for one week, I only lost .2 lbs according to the scales at the doctors office. Today I bought a set of bariatric scales that look like a doctors office scale but are digital. According to those I lost 6.3 lbs. Which scales do I believe? rrrggghhhh

We are starting our pre-op diet this Monday then the liquid diet on November 2. I am really excited but I am also getting scared after reading some of the complications that others have had. Top 10 Reasons
My top 10 reasons (in no certain order): 1. I just want to "feel better". Tired of high blood pressure, having no energy and toting around all this extra weight. 2. Be able to work out at the gym without my knees hurting so bad and everyone staring at me. 3. I want to take a "Zumba" class. 4. I want to sit on the floor and play with my grandchildren. 5. I want to have a normal sexual relationship with my husband. 6. I want to be able to wear a bathing suit and go down a "waterslide". 7. I want to be able to buy clothes that look nice on me without having to pay a fortune. 8. I want to lose the fear that when I die I will not fit in my casket and have to be buried in a piano case. 9. To be able to wear something pretty as "Mother of the Groom" when my son's get married. 10. To be part of society instead of being ignored or made fun of by those who don't understand that in God's eyes we are all the same - someday we will ALL have perfect wings.
