The Sleeve Gastrectomy and How and Why it can Fail (Surgery Current Research 2014 publication)
I SOOOOO agree with you! I DID regain 27 pounds - 3 years out. Why? Cookies, candy, carbs, no exercise, yadayadayada. AND I DID lose thos 27 and an additional 10 with work and exercise and I'll tell you what - it would have been extremely difficult if I didn't have my sleeve. I Still Have the restriction and if eating properly, can only eat a small amount still. I DO get hungry sooner than Before and have to guard very carefully my calorie count per day because if I go over a certain amount I WILL and do gain. Was my sleeve a failure? No. I feel truly successful almost four years out and 110 pounds lighter, normal BMI and size 8!

Mood issues post weight loss
I would truly like to know that, Fiddleman and Sheryl. I rarely sleep a full night now without waking, tossing and turning, and laying awake. I was always a really deep sleeper but I'm also older now and been under a lot of stress also.

'Normal BMI'
Don't you love it? To achieve that healthy number, though subjective sometimes, is awesome! Most of, or all, had was to become healthy and to have a healthy BMI makes me feel truly successful even if I struggle sometimes to maintain and eat as heathy as I should.

Do you ever?
Oh Target! It's a bad, bad place for me! . I can easily find something I HAVE to have!

Shingles? Possibly?
Thanks for the response. I DID go to Dr as soon as I could ( we had a snowstorm) and yes, it was shingles. I was put on Valtrex and high dose steroids. Like you said, it can be totally debilitating and can cause depression since you tend to think it will NEVER end. It finally has ended. I still have twinges of it now and then but for the most part, I am pain free. After a period of remission, I will receive the vaccine to help reduce reoccurrences.

Kick start weight loss
Not an astoundingly new approach but truly what we all have to do and take account of to lose or kickstart weight loss and to maintain. http://www.everydayhealth.com/weight/tips-to-get-off-diet-plateau.aspx?pos=1&xid=nl_EverydayHealthWomensHealth_20140331

I've been actively following this heart rending situation. Unbelievable.

Okay, THIS is interesting...!
I'm interested in " adding to" or guaranteeing continued success with my sleeve. Using knowledge of the gut/biome sounds promising. Refresh my mind as to what you are taking now. I need to get with it.

How was your 5:2 day today?
How to catch up? Read through all the posts and it amazes me how very eclectic this group is. Just shows you CAN get along with different temperaments! Ha! Well, we DO have space. . Spent the weekend with my YaYa friends and hubs. There are five of us that are lifelong, fast friends. We went back to the duck lodge retreat center that is in the middle of nowhere but a gorgeous setting in a big log cabin lodge with chefs who prepare full blown means and desserts three times a day. Needless to say, I am ROLLING in the door at my arrival home! Homemade bread pudding, pound cake, biscuits and gravy, quiche, to name a few. Oh so good and oh so many calories! Sarah! I DID NOT weigh this morning! ( she said she does the same thing. Thinking we can ignore it if we've been bad. Ha!). And no, FYE, I did not log it in MFP either. Lol. But, I am going to try to defeat the carb monster this week and get back on track. The sad thing is the very first night - 3 hours into weekend- one of the Yayas got a phone call that devastated all of us. Her precious SIL, only 55, was found by her husband dead at their home. Thinking it was a heart attack. She had been sick at stomach at noon and he brought her some Gatorade to help settle her stomach. Called about four no answer. Called back a few mins later still no answer. Left his job and rushed home. Found her in the BR, slumped over dead. Her hands were still warm. Tried to revive. Called Aran across the street and 911 but she was gone. She had suffered from crippling RA for many years but was doing great lately. One daughter just had first baby and the other one has 2 year old and is pregnant with 2nd. So sad but she had a great life and family. Funeral today. So we lost one couple quickly from our trip. It was a good, and food filled weekend. Lol Glad to hear from most all. Florida, excited about possible Seattle gig. Praying for phone interview to come through and New low, Florinda and Coops! Happy birthday, Kathy! And happy Mothers Day (?) to all the "other side of the ocean" folks. I can't wrap my head around the fact that Mothers Day is on different month than ours. Hmm. Haven't read the info you posted yet, OD, but I will. As to the discussion of hormones and um, dryness, I HAVE to have that with my Dr next week when I go. Discomfort is just a mild adjective for me unless it's, um, "non-entry" sex! If you know what I mean! Ha! Suits me. But not the hubs all the time. Plus, I NEED some hormones. Hair loss is tremendous. Interesting facts, FYE. I have knowledge of the Native American side (Eagle is my maiden name!) but haven't researched Moms side. Need to. Swizzly, how are you feeling? Wanda, can't wait to read your play. The story of Ruth, Naomi and Boaz has always been my favorite. "Whither thou goest, I will go..." M2G, Yaay on the Fast Day! Hopefully, I do well this week. Managed a good one day fast last week. Sheryl, girlfriend, you have got to get some moderation in your escapades! Lol. It's all or nothing with you. Jealous of the skiing. One day I am going to conquer my fear and do it! Came away from the weekend with all these trips I want to go on and friends texting me to go on cruises! Not enough Time to do it all and still work! I need to be independently wealthy. (Ain't happening). Happy Monday (or whatever day you happen to be in) to all! Let's do this! And yes, Ms Skinniness, I am mostly shingle pain free. A little this morning but manageable and none over the weekend.

Discouraged with "planning" meals
i just printed this out! Such great ideas. Do you like veggie soup? You can def add that to the list. I use the "breakfast starters" soy crumbles instead of ground beef some times and you can't tell the dif and good! Now, the cabbage - I love cabbage - when you say vinegar (how much and what spice) red wine, reg? Is this like kraut? Also, we do a "meal in a bag" with a head of cabbage, carrots, onions, potatoes (if desired) zuchinni and turkey polish sausage. all cut into chunks, add a stick of butter (or some olive oil) plenty salt pepper and some Checheres herbs/spices and bake in a oven bag or dutch oven til veggies cooked. It is delish.

always tired and cold
As a Vet, (hint hint I am ALWAYS cold also!!! I was always an extremely hot natured person prior to WLS (or at least I thought so!) I am not so much tired, although I can tell a HUGE difference when I allow myself to eat more "junk" and not cleanly.

Well, as soon as I have time to call the clinic, I'll post what I find out. I'm hoping it will work for me.

That is awesome, Kathy!!!! Hope it all goes smoothly (as smoothly as moving from one house to another after years in one spot can go! Ha! Been there- done that! Don't want to do again!)

Get an OTC acid reducer like omeprazole (Prilosec) and start taking daily. Also don't eat or drink for at least an hour before laying down and for SURE don't take any vitamins, drugs and the. Lay down. Sounds like you are having reflux. If continues, you need to see a Dr. Soon!
