Foods That Cause Dumping.
I was experiencing episodes of very low blood sugar, sliminess, sweating, extreme weakness, etc for several months at times. My blood sugar would be in the 40-50s at times. Found out that when I cut back on carbs totally stopped. Talked to my surgeon at my two year appt and said I thought I was having dumping syndrome. He told me emphatically that I was NOT experiencing it. That VSG do not have true dumping. Yes to low blood sugar etc. I know this. I went on a trip the next week while I had been diligently watching diet and carbs. Had a very sweet sugary cupcake and within an hour had an "episode". . My body cannot tolerate high sugar, high carb without consequences now.

- Where are the 50s ???
Most definitely, DON'T stock up! lol I could not find ANY protein drinks, powder, I could tolerate and wound up getting protein through food. Struggled through the isopure for a week or so but ECK! I wound up throwing away many EXPENSIVE bottles along with whey protein powders. Once I could get down soft foods, I was able to get most of my protein in by soft cheese, soft eggs, yogurt, etc. And then found pure protein bars and lived on them.- What's The First Thing You Purchased After Wls That Made You Feel Sexy?
Um, well..... 10 years after total hysto and no hormone replacement, not feeling too "SEXY" these days! ha! BUT, I can tell you, girl, the first time I put on that size 8 - 8 - 888888888 - skirt and it jipped up and fit, I almost ran through the store shouting! I do admit I feel a little sexy when I get a gimpse of my skiinny pencil skirts and skinny legs in heels! Now, you've heard my SEXY story! lol Wishing the best to all!- Where are the 50s ???
Thanks, Y'all! (doesn't that sound like Paula Deen??) lol.- Where are the 50s ???
Well, wanted to check in with the "50s" - went to my 2 year surgiversary check up with Dr. Gibbs (a month late!) And all great! Felt so good to go in - get on the scale and not be embarrassaed or ashamed. Plus to think that two whole years have gone by and I am right where I want to be - lost most of my regain bounce back that I added by adding bad carbs late last year so I was happy all in all. No meds, no issues except making sure to watch my diet! So thrilled to be where I am right now as a "sleever!"- Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?
Globetrotter, I DO believe that has something to do with it. Once our bodies reach a level of GOAL it likes unless we HOLD that weight for at least 6 months (according to info I've read) it will try everything in it's power to go back to it's set point. I know for me - I reached goal, started little by little adding back in bad carbs etc and gradually the pounds came back until I had regained approximately 13 lbs. I've successfully whittled that down to about 8 or so I need to lose to be where I'd like to be FOREVER. THEN gotta "hold" it for a longer period of time so that my "set point"/metabolism agrees. It is truly amazing how quickly it comes back with a vengenance if I even take a few days breather from low carbs. AND I did prove again to myself and my body that if I eat too many carbs (sweet ones) at a time, I DO get "dumping syndrome" and get the shakes/sweats. Happend last Tuesday when my old, old friends I was with in Louisiana decided to go to the cupcake shop for dessert. Of course, I had a wedding cake cupcake! And an hour or less later experienced the low blood sugar/shaking/sweaty feeling. Truly weird. But you know what? I am SOOOO happy to be in a size 8/10 (bought SMALL teeshirts Tuesday! even if they were "relaxed fit") and otherwise healthy. God is good and so is my sleeve! Best to all for a happy weekend!- Official Ongoing Gastric Sleeve Maintenance Thread
Nanna509, I'm interested in what you are experiencing with your Sleeve at 3 years out. How much did you lose? Pocked back up any? What is your regular diet like now? I'm a little over 2 years out and love reading from "old timers". Lol. So encouraging. Have fun on your vacay!- Caffeine?
Try Crystal Light Citrus Splash or Focus flavor. Has some caffeine in it and no sugar no carbonation! That's my drink of choice !!- Will I Ever Enjoy Eating Again?
The sheer "pleasure" we all enjoyed prior to surgery is forever gone I think; but then again, isn't that what got us into this mess? lol For me - two years out - food enjoyment is not there. that one good bite and you think boy, this is good, then the next couple are eck!! ha!- Salads
You know, I loved a good salad prior to VSG, and couldn't tolerate any until a few months out but even now - only a few bites of salad does me in. Since I need to get the protein (meat) part of any meal in first eating the salad along with it just doesn't do it for me anymore. Kinda sad. But I've found a lot of things to be that case. Food pleasure anymore is just gone. And that is a GOOD THING! Except for the carbs I WANT to eat! lol- Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?
Well, here goes! Amazing, how FAST pounds come BACK on with only a few days deviated from plan. I've been basically doing low carb for a month or so. Been pretty stringent about it. Started the July 4th challenge - 9 lbs lost over 3 wks.- exercising more, etc. Last Thursday got sidetracked with LIFE - really did not OVER DO in any form but ate more carbs in small amounts. For example, I had a 4 cracker pack of Peanut Butter crackers yesterday. Half a hamburger (with one slice of bread removed). etc Well, guess what? (smile) In FOUR DAYS, all but 2 pounds back! I'm over two years out - reached goal - re gained about 10 lbs and stayed there but Wow! It is so frustrating to realize that if I vary AT ALL I will gain right back in a a few days what takes weeks to lose ! Not a happy camper but determined not to regain anymore and get back to REAL comfort zone. I'm happy with my size 8-10 clothes but I truly worry about regain over the coming months/years! Again, THIS IS A TOOL and a lifeline NOT A CURE ALL!- July 4Th Challenge

DIET TIP Researchers say an "alternate-day" diet, eating little one day & plenty the next I find this interesting !- Pregnant!
Is Tiffykins still around? She would be the one to ask about pregnancy. She is the "fount of knowledge!" BTW, I miss you, Tiffykins!! Update us, Girlfriend!- My Drain Is The Only Pain...anyone Else?
i guess I was really lucky. My surgeon doesn't didn't use drains of any kind! I had absolutely no problems. I can sympathize, though!! That would be miserable! Good luck to all!- Gross Incision :( :( :(
Thought my big one was infected (same situation) and had pharmacist look at it when I was in store - they said to see Dr. Did - no big deal - not infected - NOT to put Neosporin on it for some reason. Just keep it clean and dry and NOT cover it. Took about another 10 days or so to improve but if it starts getting really hot and swollen GO!!!!- July 4Th Challenge
Yaayyy to all of us!!!!!! We are winners!!! - Where are the 50s ???
