  1. Well, I guess it varies depending on your surgeon and other medical conditions but I had an ekg, upper gi, gall bladder ultra sound, lots and lots of blood work, two pregnancy tests, 2 nutritional classes, 5 meetings with nutritionist, I was required to loss 10% of excess body weight (for me it was 10 pounds), support group attended, and a pysch evaluation. Hope that answers your question. Good luck to you.
  2. Shrink that liver! Me too! Getting sleeved on December 6. I had my preop appointment today. I only have two days of liquids prior to surgery but was required to lose 10% of excess weight before they would even give me a surgery date. Now I just have to maintain the loss. I have read about a lot of people who gained a lot of weight before surgery eating their "final feasts" but it is I wanted to lose weight. From what my Dr tells me I will have a better chance of having an uneventful surgery if I lose before the big day. I have been really working on changing bad habits now, and not waiting for after the surgery to change the way I eat. Good luck to you! December is right around the corner!
  3. That sounds like my history. I work my butt off and starve myself for months. Then I eat one normal meal and I gain 3 pounds. I can lose weight but it is SO hard and impossible for me to maintain. Isn't that why we are having the surgery. I would think that your insurance company will still approve you. I think it is more like they want you to prove that you have tried to do this with out surgery. I often wondered if they also try to weed out people with all these hoops and hurdles. I it is like a cooling off period. Let us know what they say.
  4. I hate it when stuff like that happens! Good for you for throwing it away. I am not looking forward to my preop diet...good luck to you. YOU CAN DO IT.
  5. Cindy, I asked the Lord to be with you tomorrow to guide the doctors and nurses caring for you. I prayed for your family waiting for you to come out of surgery. I will look forward to hearing from you soon. Blessings Girl,

  7. I am a military wife too! I can't imagine doing this with out my hubby to talk to though! He will be so exicted to see you when he returns and you are gonna blow him away. I am three weeks away from surgery and I have been kind of moody. I find myself having a hard time falling asleep which hasnt been a problem since I have three kids and am usually exhausted by the time I get to bed each night. I lay awake thinking about the things that will change and things I know about the surgery and the things I need to ask the surgeon. I just have to keep reminding my self that I am doing this so that I can live a long healthy life and enjoy every minute I have with my family. I am doing this so my children will have a role model to follow to be healthy eaters. Then they will have a good chance of being able to stay away from weight issues in their future. If you ever need to chat with someone please feel free to send me a private message and I will chat. I am a stay at home mom on the west coast so I am home a lot of the day. Are you having this done at a Military facility? I will say a little pray every thing goes well for you on the 18th.
  8. Wow! That is awesome. 4 months is no time at all. Great job. Any advice you want to share to some getting ready to have surgery? Can't wait to join you on the other side (surgery 6 Dec).
  9. WOW that is great! Back to the gym already! I thought it would be atleast 4 weeks before going to the gym. They told me I wouldn't be able to pick up my 18month old for 2 weeks. She only weighs about 19 pounds. Angela~I will be sleeved on the 6th of December. Good Luck to you! we can lose it together!
  10. Saying a pray that it all goes smoothly for you! Can't wait to hear from you when your home!
  11. Having surgery soon...wondering what medication do you use for migraines after surgery ? I used to get them monthly and lately they have been less frequent but just want to be prepared. I have been taking 800 mg of Ibprofen so I know that is not an option. thanks...
  12. Good Luck to you Ginny...keep us posted on your progress. PS so far i like nectar twisted cherry protein shakes...not as heavy as the others.
  13. Awesome! Great JOB! You will be at your goal in no time! I'll do a happy dance for you too!
  14. Thank you Sahsa, I am so glad that you are doing so well. I am putting all my faith in God because otherwise I would worry myself into a tail spin. I trust that He will see me through this process and use all things to glorify Him. Blessings to you on your recovery and success on your journey. Annette
  15. Fishnfool-thank you for telling us about your experience. It really helps to hear about others after surgery experiences. Takes the edge off my nerves. Cant wait to see all the weight you lose and I will be right behind you (surgery 6 Dec).
  16. I was "approved" before my psych eval or any other work ups but was not allowed to have a surgery date until all tests were done and I lost 10% of excessive weight. Now I just have to keep off the weight and wait for December 6th.
  17. You did such a great job. What a success story. Thank you for sharing it with all of us. Continue to keep us posted on your NEW LIFE. I can wait to be able to post things like this!
  18. Hey guys, I was wondering if you could tell me how you felt 3 weeks post op? What activities where you able to do? I will have surgery on 6Dec and I have 6 family members joining our family of 5 for Christmas and staying for 10 days. Not too worried about entertaining them, just wondering what I can expect. PS I have NEVER had surgery before. Thank you for your help
  19. I know exactly how you feel. My surgery is scheduled for December 6. Some days I am so excited and know it is the right thing to do and other days I just think of the what ifs... I think what we feel is normal and it is kind of part of the process. I have been jumping through hoops to get wls surgery since May. And toying with the idea since 2006. I have just completed all my requirments and hit my pre-surgery weight goal (set by doc) two weeks ago and now I just have to keep that weight off and wait. I have been reading over every single word of every single paper they gave me so that I will have a good idea of what to expect but since I found this site, I think there is much more useful infor here. I love that you can ask a question and get several different opinions or experiences to answer. Everyone is so helpful. I hope everything goes well for you..keep me posted...I'll be right behind you.
  20. I want to weigh every day now because I am required to lose 10% of excess weight prior to surgery. That was not the problem. But I also have to keep it off. (that is where I worry, have not done well with that in the past). I can not wait for the day when I dont need to look to the scale to see if I have been succesful with losing weight and keeping it off.
  21. I think that is going to be one of my new favorite sayings...it is not a diet-this is a journey to a new health. The thing I dont get is that it seems like everyone has a different plan...so sticking to "the plan" is confusing to me. Maybe after surgery (DEC 6) I will get it. Thanks for all your advice.
  22. Thank you! I can't wait for the victories and successes!
  23. Can't wait to be a size 8! I can buy that size in any store!
