    Any Vegetarian Sleevers?

I too am following the plant based way of eating. "Forks over Knives" and I feel wonderful. I was stuck in my weightloss for quite some time but when I started this new way of eating which was two weeks ago - I lost 9 pounds. I love the way it makes me feel and the reasoning behind plant based eating makes me feel like I am doing something really healthy for myself. I am sticking with it. Love the beans!

    Reflux/heart Burn

I take Dexilant prescribed by my doctor. It does get better with time. I started taking everyday after surgery but now I only take two per week. When I feel it coming on I sip water and sometimes that helps. Also avoid foods that can cause it. (coffee - chocolate - peanuts) Your body will tell you what foods cause the most reflux. Hang in there.

    Special Day today

That is so absolutely fantastic! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And congratulations on your accomplishment. 3 years...that is awesome. I am 56 and my only regret is that I didn't do this sooner.....but I was not ready sooner. Glad to see you say you did it for you. I know for myself that I had to do this for me and me alone. If I did it for anyone else I would cheat when they are not around. Built my life on faking for so long but this is for me and this is for real. Yes this sleeve is truly a blessing and I entend to see it through to goal and beyond. Much hugs to ya Suzanne!

    Partners in Crime

My sister (2sweetnSugarland) and I were sleeved on the same day by the same surgeon (May 13, 2011). While there was not a lot of competition on our part - there was definately a lot of support. We recovered on the same floor and would walk around the nurses station together. We work out together several times a week at the gym (we started long before we had surgery) It helped to have someone going through this same experience that you love and who loves you. I don't particularly like competition when it comes to weight loss because no two people are the same and there are so many variables that are a part of losing weight. It is too emotional of a process for me as it is without adding unecessary stress like why did I lose only two pounds and she lost three. Remember it is not a race it is a journey.
  5. I am on Omeprazole - once a day. I am trying to cut it back to every other day. I tried stopping cold turkey and the acid reflux/Gerd was too much for me. I am researching other ways to combat the reflux (naturally) so I am open to any suggestions that anyone has. I have read some pretty scary stuff about prolonged use of PPIs. I am going to talk to my General Practitioner on my next visit to see if she has any other suggestions. She is really into alternative medicines. I will share what I find out.

    The cookie monster....

Hey we all have our pitfalls. I can truly relate to the sweets! I am in the middle of my third week post op so I have not been exposed to any activities yet. I am not looking forward to it. I know from old Weight Watchers training that a couple of rules do help with those kinds of pitfalls. 1. Never go to a function hungry. Eat a close to time for the function as possible. 2. If you do eat something you had not planned to - the next time you eat should be on track with what you are suppose to eat. Now if I had listened to that advice or practiced it like I should I would not be as "fluffy" as I am now. But it did work for me when I worked the program. I myself am terrified to face my Mom's sweets but I know that day will come. Does anyone know where you can buy a muzzle - preferrably in pink so that I can atleast look cute when I wear it.
  11. Congratulations! I have 24 pounds to go to get to OneunderLand. Good for you!

    Surgery Cancelled

So glad to hear that you did get clearance for the surgery you wanted as apposed to the surgery the surgeon wanted. Sometimes surgeons push the sugery that is best for them as apposed to the patient. Good for you! Good luck. Keep us posted.

    A little about myself

Welcome Linda! I commend you on your decision to get healthy. I am 2 weeks post op and all I can say is even during the recovery period (about a week) there was never a time when I wished that I could reverse what I did. Let us share your journey...it really does help to get support from people who have been through this. Good luck to you! YaY Linda!!
  14. Congratulations. My surgery was May 13th. For me the hunger is diminished but I am also dealing with a lot of acid reflux so I can't tell if I am really hungry right now.

Is it just me or is this not as easy as it seems?

Hey NewMeNewDay. I was sleeved this past Friday. I know....hugs...hugs...... Hang in there Lady. It does get better. You are overwhelming yourself with trying to get in everything that you eventually need to do in the first few days after surgery. I know you have heard this before from the great people on this site but each day it really does get better. Let everything and I mean everything else go and just concentrate on you drinking tiny little sips every minute or so and moving a little bit more each time you try to. I know....OWW but ease into it. Little sips and little baby steps. Keeping gently urging yourself to do a little bit more with the movement each time. Concentrate on Tiny Tummy and get to know the feeling of when you have had enough liquids....let that settle...then sip some more. Do not let yourself get dehydrated.....your pee should be light yellow not dark yellow. If I was any where near you I would give you a big ole hug....and then we both would yell OUCH Hang in there! You can do this! You have come too far! This is only temporary!
  17. Well...it's here! I will have my surgery tomorrow morning and my sister (2sweet) will have her's right after mine. As I type this it is really hitting home. We are going to be new healthy people starting tomorrow morning....WOW !! Me and my sis have done so many things together in our lifetime. We have started businesses - been through weddings, divorce, births and deaths. We have each other's back - all the time - if one gets cut we both bleed. If one gets hit by a car...roll her over cause the other one is underneath. If one wins the Lottery....well she better give me some money or I will stalk her for life! Our relationship with food has been almost identical as well and so was our problem with weight. By far out of all the things that we have done together...all the projects that we have started and completed together.....this is by far the best and the most important project we will ever do together. We take care of so many people in our lives but this time we are taking care of ourselves. And Ladies and Gents - this is only the beginning. I can't say that I am scared or nervous exactly.....maybe a little but I am so stoked...so excited....so happy......so high (not on drugs) that I could spit glitter and balloons! Pray for us as we have truly been praying for everyone here and thanks so much for all the good stuff that is coming out of this forum. See ya on the Slim Side!!!!!!!

    4 Days Post Op

Well we are 4 days post op. (Me and my bestie/sister 2SweetnSugarland) Thanks everyone for all the well wishes and prayers. They were certainly needed and appreciated. While I do feel sore I can tell you that I have not had one minute of regret. I know that this was needed. As I lay here sipping Water and watching all the diet ideas and even Oprah's 100 lb weight loss special on TV I knew that I myself need more. This is just the tool that I need. No it was not easy but so well worth it.. The great thing is we are all in this together and this forum would not be such a great support system if not for all of you. So this is my story: May 13th a.m. me and my bestie 2Sweet were getting ready to make our way to the hospital that morning when we both got a call bumping up our surgery time. So we all jumped in our cars (us and our entire family) and took off for the hospital...yippee. Surgery went well - I myself don't remember anything past rolling into the operating room. When I woke up - yep I ladies and gents I was in pain (we all knew this was not going to be a spa trip right). I expected to stay in the hospital one day but he found a few issues while poking around in there that needed to be fixed and that meant an additional day. But I tell you what, everytime I woke up from my drug induced happy state there was my sister....IV pole in tow....challenging me to yet another race around the nurses station. She was such a good sight to see although hospital icky cotton is not a good look on her. Luv her! We looked like two bent over 100 year old ladies trying to relive our youth. One thing was true though....everytime we went for a walk we got a little stronger and walked a little better and had a little more strength to make it around that station one more time. Now I am working on getting use to my "Little Sleevie Wonder" To wrap up this story here are my facts: 1. Yes there is pain but there is also wonderful drugs 2. Do everything your nurse and doctor says 3. Every day COUNTS cause each day you feel less and less like dog poo microwaved 4. Sip sip sip walk walk walk 5. Be patient each day you get stronger and this gets a little easier. 6. It is soooooo worth it! You know what! We are all warriors! We can do this! We are already on the "Slim Side" cause bones don't gain weight - we just have some quilting to get rid of . WELCOME TO THE SLIM SIDE EVERYBODY!!!
