  1. Hi There MGB Peeps! I think I am being a good sport, but this slow losing really has me discouraged. I am now 3 weeks out and have only lost 10 pounds since surgery day . I know they say revisions lose more slowly, but this is the pits! It's very frustrating when you see that others are losing 20-30 lbs. the first month. I know I am nowhere near on track to deliver that kind of result. Anybody else having a similar experience?
  2. Hello All- I am scheduled for Sleeve Revision to Mini-Bypass on Sept 29th. I do not have enough vacation time to take extended time off, so I will be returning to work in 5 days. I am having my surgery with Dr. Ilan. Any tips, advice, input, or expectations you would like to share? I took off 2 weeks with my sleeve and was bored to tears after about 5 days. So, I'm confident I'll be fine to return to my desk job so quickly. Also, it has been rumored that my weight loss will much slower with the second surgery than it was with the Sleeve. Anybody have any insight on this? Thanks in advance.

  4. Instead of 2 anastamosis, there is only one. A gastric bypass involves 2 connections to the intestines, the Mini Gastric only involves 1 connection. They are very similar otherwise. What are your current stats? When did you get your sleeve? How much did you lose? What have you chosen to revise?
  5. Severe GERD, very severe. I hadn't slept on my back in years, I was throwing up blood, esophageal damage, etc. It was a nightmare@ Sent from my SM-G935P using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Thank you so much Meryline! I really appreciate the encouragement. I know we are told not to parallel our journey with anyone else's, but it so hard not to compare myself. With the help of all of y'all, I am re-focused on ME and MY unique journey!
  7. Good for you! I too, am so happy to be free of GERD. I could never imagine sleeping as well as I am now. It's wonderful.
  8. I'm hanging in there. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. This forum does so much for me. It's like "walking the halls" full of people just like me.
  9. Hi- I had my sleeve surgery 9/28/2011, with a high weight of 256. I lost down to 177, but began having sever GERD. I began eating carbs to tamper down the acid. It worked for the acid, it destroyed my weight loss. I just newly converted to the Mini Gastric Bypass. You will not find a ton of information on this surgery, and little none on conversions from Sleeve to Mini Bypass. There is a Mini Gastric Bypass forum on here, but like I said, information is very limited since it is not a widely accepted surgery her in the United States. There are very few doctors that do them. Anyway, I am only nearly 3 weeks out from surgery so I cannot fully testify to the efficiency for weight loss. However, I will tell you in terms of the GERD that I feel like I have a whole new lease on life. It is magical to be free of acid!

    Band to Sleeve to Bypass

I did this, minus the band journey. I went from Sleeve to Bypass and haven't looked back! Now, I'm only nearly 3 weeks out, so I can't testify to the weight loss results yet, but as far as the GERD that change in my life has been MAGICAL! It feels so good to sleep on my back, to drink water before bed and in the night if I am thristy, to not have to sabotage my weight loss by relying on carbs to temper down the acid, and to free myself from the fear of developing Barrett's Esophagus or esophageal legions or ulcers. Trust me, living with chronic severe GERD is no way to live. Come on back to the civilized side, DO IT! You will certainly thank yourself later.
  11. Hi There! Anybody else have trouble with eggs? I have tried them twice, both times left me hanging over the throne. I'm wondering if it will always be this way...

    Trouble with Eggs

Thank you for all your input. I think I will put off trying them for a while longer, and when I do, add some moisture (salsa, sauce, etc.)
  13. That is exactly the reason I am doing it. The acid reflux is unbearable, and in my consult the surgeon said the conversion should resolve the issue.

    Intermittent Fasting

Hello All! I am SO happy to have found this discussion. I had VSG in Sept. 2011 and was doing very well until I got pregnant, and found the weight piling back on post partum. I have begun the 5:2 (Intermittent Fasting) Diet and have had great results. However, I was reluctant to share about the 5:2 Diet as I was afraid I would be judged by other sleevers for taking the huge step to actually have surgery, and then find myself once again "dieting" 5 years out. However, as I understand the IF practice, it is not a diet, but a lifestyle. I am considering starting an Intermittent Fasting Forum, and wondered if there would be enough interest. Do you guys find this something that may be of interest to you? Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Ducker
  17. I know it seems that I eat a lot of food, but really I spread it outover the day so that I am never feeling stuffed. For example, the two boiled egg whites and whole boiled egg I may not finish in one sitting. I work really long hours so I tend to pick at that any time of the day when I feel hungry. So, I categorized it as a snack since I am typically not eating it as a meal, but it may be spread over the day. The ice cold protein drink I save for my long commute home since there are several hours between that and when I ate lunch, and I typically do not start dinner as soon as I get home because I have to walk my pups first.
  18. Yes, for breakfast I eat the egg AND the turkey bacon. And, for the snack I eat two boiled egg whites AND a whole boiled egg (including yolk).
  19. Breakfast: 1egg pan fried in olive oil 3 slices turkey bacon Snack: 2 boiled egg whites 1 whole boiled egg Lunch: Grilled boneless chix breast Steamed veggies Snack: Premier protein shake (Costco) Dinner: Grilled fish or chicken Steamed veggies
  20. I am happy to report that by employing this strategy (upping protein and water) I still can't manage to get to 120 oz. of water, but I am getting to between 90-100 and it's working! As far as protien, I make it a point to never consume less than 100 gm /day. With these changes I am now losing about .5 lb/day. From what I understand this is great for a person that is nearly 1-1/2 yrs. out. I am so excited about this renewed progress. I can't thank you enough for sharing this Tamara S! It has literally turned my world around. My new aim is to be at goal by my birthday (May 17th). If I keep going at this rate, this is totally feasible.
  21. Greetings All! I really think this should be a post for the Veterans Forum, but sadly I don't qualify (you need to have 100+ posts, whew!). Anyway, I am 16 months out and 20 lbs from goal (and have been for about 5 months). Now I admit that I am not as stringent as I was in the first year. I now allow myself some carbs and treats in addition to some cocktails. I have also slacked off on my Water (though I was never able to get to the 120/oz a day requested by my doctor AND get the Protein in). Now don't get me wrong, I look great due to my muscle mass and body shape (curvy). My blood work is stellar (my doctor said she wishes her blood work looked like mine). However, it bothers me that I am still obese on the charts when I visit the doctor, and that other people with similar stats to mine (including time since surgery) posting about how they got to goal in five months and are now fighting to keep their weight from falling under goal. There have also been several posts about people experiencing stalls and freaking out when they are only 3-6 months out. This is different. Could it be that my body is just done losing weight? Ducker
  22. I actually got in a car accident in November and am not allowed to do anything but walk for 20 mins. at a time so I do that twice a day. I should have mentioned that. However, my "stall" had already set in before the accident when I was exercising harder so I don't think that part is relevant.
  23. Ok so I just finished my second day of following your recommendations (120 oz H2o & 100+ gms protein) and I am down 3 lbs! I have also all but cut out carbs. I am going to keep with this trend, I think there's something to it. Thank you so much!
  24. Thank you all for sharing. I have been a "slow" loser from the beginning. However, I am pretty happy with my body right now. I am 16 months out and was wondering what on earth I am going to have to do to shed this last 20 lbs! I have been stuck at the same weight for about 6 months and it hurts my feelings! It does not help that I got in a car accident right before the holidays and have been unable to workout outside of just walkng my two pups 20 mins 2x/day. I had really moved away from the Protein shakes as I felt confident to be able to consume enough protein through foods. Obviously that is not working. I am probably only getting around 40 - 60 grams per day and have really eased up on the Water focus as well. am going to go in hard with increasing my protein and water intake and see what happens! Thank you so much for sharing! Ducker
