    Just Banded

Had my surgery on 2/23/11 and i had pain for about 2-3 days that was pretty excruciating. Mostly hurt when I got up out of a chair, in and out of bed etc... My Dr. suggested walking every couple of hours and on the second day I put myself on the treadmill and walked slowly. It really helped alot! I had surgery on Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. Don't push yourself too hard, but the quicker you get things back to normal, I think the better you'll feel! I took my pain meds for about 3-4 days. At night when I went to bed, I wedged a pillow under my abdomen (because I always sleep on my side or belly) and just kinda rolled over on it. Hope that makes sense...lol. Anyway, I was able to sleep really well that way. Hope this bit of info. helps! Good Luck!

    is this hunger?

I had the same pains and assume it's just part of the healing process? After a few days it went away
  3. Ok, this site is a little difficult for me to figure out. I posted to your reply the other day, but now I don't even see it! lol Anyway, if you didn't get it....how cool that we're that close together! How are you doing this week? Look forward to hearing from ya!

  4. I'm sure all people recover differently but my experience was, surgery on Wednesday and back to work on Monday. I do have a fairly easy job though because about 80% of my day is spent sitting at a desk :-). I will say that I wish I had've gone back a couple of days after my surgery, because when I did go back on Monday it definitely made me feel 100% better! I honestly think 2 days down time would've been enough for me. Hope this helps and good luck!
  5. That's so cool! When i replied to your post I didn't even notice where you were from! Glad you said something! I don't feel like I can have enough "band" friends. It's the advice of those who have gone through it that means the most. Hope you are feeling well and have a great day! :-)

    Pills and Lap Band

My doctor said never try something larger than a regular m&m. I have taken tylenol that size and I was ok, however that was a couple weeks after surgery and before i had any saline in my band. I only took one medication prior to my surgery which was in capsule form. My doctor switched it from 1 capsule per day to 2 small tablets a day. There are probably options if you'll talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Just make sure you do it before surgery . As far as vitamins, there are lots of liquids or chewables that work just fine. Hope this has helped! Good luck!
  7. I didn't consume much of anything the day of surgery. I mostly slept the pain meds off. There was quiet a bit of pain for the first 36-48 hours. Walking helps ALOT! The more you do it the better you'll feel. The morning of my second day I actually started walking on the treadmill because it was too cold to walk outside. Just keep increasing your time as much as possible and it really does help. Good luck!

    Today is the BIG day

Even though i've only been banded for 6 weeks, I honestly believe it's the best thing i've ever done for ME!! Good luck today!

    nervous about fill

Everything you're feeling and dealing with is perfectly normal. I had my surgery on 2-23 and went back for my first dr. appt. 4 weeks later (last week). As time went on after surgery I became hungrier and could eat more if I allowed myself. I think it has to deal with the swelling (inside) going down slowly. I had my first fill last week and it was 3 cc's. I honestly can't tell much difference from before with no fill. However, my doctor said that it could take up to 3-4 fills before she'd get it to the right spot. She told me that their goal is to have me at my "sweet spot" within 6 months. That seems like way too long for me, but i'm determined to do this and watching what I eat ALL the time. Hope this helps some. Hang in there and good luck!
  10. Just curious as to why you aren't telling your family?

    screwed up

I was banded February 23rd and can tell you that the first 2 weeks are the worse. I also ate a few things a little earlier than my doctor suggested but was later told that they figure that will happen! I don't think pudding will really hurt anything. If it were maybe meat or something maybe, but not pudding. Hang in there I promise it will get better for you.
  12. Me personally, I tell people i've had the surgery. I mean I don't broadcast it in a room full of people, but if someone ask I will tell them. I feel like it will cause me to be more accountable for my eating. I do not want to fail at this and feel that the more support I have, the better off I am. But like I said....just my opinion! Good Luck!
  13. They only opinion I can give is this, I had my surgery on February 23, 2011 and have lost 16 pounds. I have already had to go down a bra size (both in cup and size). From what i've been told, most women do lose alot in that area! Hope this helps!
  14. It took me about 2 1/2 weeks before the hurting went away in the port area. I also hurt when getting up from a chair, bending over etc.... Hang in there it does go away!!!
  15. Calorie Counter by FatSecret (there are several of them). I love that it has a barcode so that you can scan things which is sometimes easier than finding it. You can also go to their website and online and sync between your pc and phone. It's a great tool!

    How many carbs?

I was banded on 2/23, so just one day after you. Anyway, my Dr. said 70g protein, 25-33g fat, less than 100g carbs and approx. 1200 calories. I have not been able to get near the 1200 calories of food and stay within that range on fat and carbs! Good luck!

    Regrets

I had the same thought as you prior to surgery (February 23rd). I honestly believe I was addicted to Diet Mt. Dews and felt that would be the hardest thing for me to give up post surgery, but IT WASN'T! Even though i'm newly banded, at this point I would do the surgery over again given the choice. So far it's great! I have not missed Diet Mt. Dews and actually hadn't even thought about them until I typed the words! lol I have laughed and told people that I thought while the Dr. had me under anesthesia he did a rearrangement of my brain, because it's like since I woke up, i've been a different person! I don't even think in the same ways! I hope this keeps up Good Luck to you!
  18. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow! My surgery was 2 weeks ago and for me the pre-op diet was much worse than anything since surgery. You can do it!

    Feeling nothing :(

I actually had my surgery on Feb. 23rd and I had alot of what I thought was restriction until about a day ago however, i was told today that it was probably just because of swelling from surgery. My swelling is going down and allowing me to eat more is what other banders told me. I'm sure after our first fill we will be right on track. I'm just sticking to the diet and waiting for the 24th to get here and hopefully having my first fill!

    Running shoes

In my other journeys thru weight loss and with this one as well, I always wear Asics! There are many different styles and prices. You just have to find what you think feels the best. Would definitely go somewhere that you can try on several different styles and brands.
  21. I'm the same way about updates obviously since it took me 3 days to see your post! lol I'm doing great since surgery. Pretty much healed and not as sore. The only real soreness I have is in the port area. What about you?

  22. I'm having my surgery on the 23rd (Wednesday). Good luck with your surgery tomorrow! It looks like we are starting out at about the same weight and have the same goal in mind. We can do this!!!!!!!
  23. My surgery is scheduled for the 23rd (only 2 days away!!!!) and I was just curious if there are any other banders out there having surgery that same day? Would love to find friends to talk to and compare notes along this journey we're beginning.
  24. My surgery is February 23rd (next Wednesday) and i've been doing the protein diet for 3 days now. My doctor suggested that I just do it a week prior to surgery because my BMI is only about 42. However, all I can say is YUCK! I have no energy, a headache that makes me want to cry and just really don't feel well overall. Just wanting opinions of those of you who have already done this. Can I add a lean protein meat or anything of some consistency rather than just doing the protein shakes? By the way this is my first post to the forum so please be patient! lol :-)
