  1. Don't get yourself worked up because if it was slipped they wouldn't have gotten a camera past it. If you youtube a lapband surgery you can see why they may not see it from in the GI tract because it is placed around the tract and attached. My experience is if a doctor doesnt know about a band then do not listen to them. I went to urgent care one day for pain and the doctor freaked out that I still have a port in so long after surgery. She had no idea about lapband and didnt treat my pain thinking it was the port. It was a cyst rupturing on my ovary! Definately call your band doctor tomorrow. The good thing is a small slip with no symptoms can often be fixed with liquids for a few weeks. You may have no restriction if they hydrated you well with IV fluids or gave you anything to slow your GI tract.
  2. Yes I did and seems that most people do. I thought I made a mistake until about my third fill because I wasn't losing.
  3. Some even eat around their bands, washing food through with Water so they can eat more or eating slider foods like crazy. I don't know how people do this because if I touch liquid close to my food then I PB everything up. IDK how they can wash food through.
  4. My friend was banded about a month before I was. She was very succesful at first and then (like most women do) decided she lost weight so she could cheat. When she started gaining and couldn't stop then her mentality was I eat a lot of ice cream because that is all I can get down. When I would say why can't you get a sugar free popsicle down she would shut down. Now she says she can't get anything but liquids down but I go to lunch with her and she eats the entire plate of food. One of her problems is she thinks the band is her miracle and she will go get filled but she is using slider foods and probably overfilling the band. I try not to say anything but I have suggested she just get it deflated and when she is mentaly ready start over because she is just torturing herself. I have had success but it isn't fast (I started with a low BMI) and it hasn't been easy. I have a short list of foods I can eat comfortably and my band is very touchy. You can be very successful but you have to be the one to do it and not expect the band to do the work for you.
  5. My doctor put me on antibiotics which I can't get down. My band surgeon is in Fort Worth and there is no way I can fly now. I think the infection just has my band tight and my stomache irritated. The biopsy was endometrial but I have an infection now.... just my luck!!! I am going to have to find a something to open and pour this bitter capsule in.
  6. I have had my band for a year and have realized that it is very sensitive. I went in for a biopsy Thursday and everything seemed okay. My band got extremely tight Sunday night and by Monday I had fever, chills, bleeding, cramping, cough, and reflux. I will be contacting my doctor in the morning but what is everyones experience. If I go on liquids until I am over this will the band settle down or should I go get some removed?
  7. You are too tight. It will be worse tonight when you try to sleep. If you can't get into your doc to get some out then here is what I do. Start taking an antacid like Maalox or prilosec now, do not eat or drink anything about 4 hours before bed, and you might have to sleep sitting up if it is bad enough.
  8. yes it is too tight. Sometimes the stomache gets irritated and swollen so go to liquids for a few days then progress back to mushies. if you still cant get anything down then get some fluid out. If you start having other symptoms of tight band like reflux, night cough, or cant even get liquids down then go get some removed right away.
  9. Why do you feel guilty if it is an occassional thing? All doctors are different but my lap band doctor said I can eat anything I want (except soda) as long as I can get it down ok and no more then 1/4cup. He specifically said alcohol is ok but be careful because it will take less to get drunk. You have to allow room for pleasures in life.
  10. chest and back pain would be your band. Do you have a cough (especially at night), any reflux, thick saliva. Sounds like your band could be to tight but some people say they go back on liquids for a few days and it seems to resolve. Womens menstrual cycles also seem to make the band tighten.
  11. Could be. I have a really sensitive stomache and usually have issues after the fill. My stomache will start flip flopping and get upset so hopefully it is not too tight.
  12. Stop and breath!!! To be honest I cheated before surgery and i couldn't stick with the liquids. After surgery I have had success and stuck with my plan so don't be to hard on yourself. Try to have some portion control but trying to withold food is going to make you binge. Maybe you should go ahead and put in for the surgery to get your leave approved and then if you can't have surgery by then tell them you aren't going to need your vacation after all. I only took 2 days off and didn't tell my employer why but my best friend did it under FMLA and they couldnt deny her time off for all her follow up stuff. Good luck
  13. Yes mine does with excercise and also if my bowels are moving a lot. Not trying to be gross but honest
  14. You may be to tight. You will know by morning for sure. If you develop a cough, reflux, or back pain then you are too tight. Don't suffer through it just get some removed if it is too tight. It is amazing how a small amount can make such a difference. Are you getting things down okay? My band seems to tighten for a few days after a fill and then settle. Good luck
  15. So you have lost 15 pounds in less than two months and you think there is something wrong??? You sound like you are right on track. YAY you!!! You will hit that sweet spot and have a good month or two but your body always has to recover and adjust to weght loss. Remember your first few visits and I bet your doc or nurse said Lapband isn't for rapid weight loss. It is meant to be slow but steady to prepare your body for success. I didn't lose more then 5 pounds the first 3 months then the 3rd fill was a miracle and I dropped a lot. You are on the right track and doing great!!!
  16. Good post!!! Great perspective on freedom. I too do not eat a lot of those foods I used to love because to put it simply.... it hurts!!! My list of foods that are easy to eat is short but they say each person is different. Amazingly though it doesn't bother me that I have given up a lot of foods (common ones such as hamburger meat, cakes, bread, and pasta). My best friend has a lap band also and manages to eat just about everything. Annoying at times but she hasn't had success either.
  17. Lulu.... It is not a miracle. It will take work and it is not easy. You still have to watch what you eat and how much you eat. The band is just another tool in your toolbox. I can tell you that it hasn't been easy. It has been as hard as trying to lose it without the band but I have a little more control with the band. If you are looking for something that you get and then just wait for "it" to make you lose weight then NO this will not work and will not be worth it. If you have made up your mind that you are changing your lifestyle FOREVER and this is just to help you then yes you will be successful and it will be worth it. For me it has been worth it but the weight loss has been slow and i have had to work hard at it.
  18. Seriously you can't fail at something in two weeks. Relax and let the band work. Most people including myself do not even feel any difference until their 3 to 4th fill. Most seem to gain weight the first few weeks but remember they put a lot of fluids in during surgery and there is a lot of swelling and your body is trying to figure out what to do. You will be hungry until you get to a certain point with your fills but it usually isn't after 1 fill. Try to stick with your program for food as best you can and quit trying so hard. I ate a lot of poscicles and still do to get over the humps when i can't seem to stay full. The main focus is portion control and protein. You will be ok.
  19. First of all start writting down your questions to make sure you get to ask all you want at your appointments. I can't tell you anything about the process because I was a cash pay patient and I had a consult and surgery within a month but could have had it a week after my consult. The doctors walk you through the process but I have read on here that it can take a while to clear insurance. I think if someone talks about a BMI that is to high then they mean for lap band but another weight loss surgery would be better. Lap band is meant for slow and steady weight loss and within a few years you should be at maintenance weight so sometimes a larger person might need to go with gastric bypass or something else but your doctor will help you decide that. Don't worry about your BMI because a lot of people lose a lot of weight on the presurgery diet. Each surgeon is different about their preop and criteria. Just relax and get the most out of your experince. God luck!!!
  20. If you are consuming enough calories in sliders to gain weight then I don't think you are really at your sweet spot. That is a classic sign of being overfilled. My best friend has a band to and she fights this battle but it is a mental battle. She gets fills to "fix" her eating problem and can't eat anything but drinks cokes, ice cream, chips, etc. Then she starts getting food like Tacos and nachos down but continues to say "I just can't get anything down except the foos I can't have". One day I went to lunch with her and she ate the entire plate of Mexican food then later was upset about her weight gain. I finally called her out on how much I watched her eat and that she is over filled. My advice would be the same to you as to her... go back to basics. Start back with day 1 post op and if you aren't mentally ready then for goodness sake get the band deflated (quit hurting yourself just to gain weight and get it filled when you are mentally ready to start back. You would probably stop gining if you get deflated and just eat normal for a while. It really does seem to be a mental thing with some people..... I hope you find your Mojo again
  21. I dont know if it is the fill or just timing but last time I went for a fill I got a horrible migraine. Since I fly to my surgeon I asked him if he could prescribe me a pill so I could make it back home. He said it is very common and prescribed me a nose spray. He said it knocks headaches right out and won't make the band tighten or stomache irritation. He was telling the truth!!! I carry it with me now. I can't say it was the fill because I fly there so there are a lot of changes with altitude, allergies, stress, etc but the spray is wonderful. I also didn't realize how much headache medicine (NSAIDS) was messing with my band until I stopped taking them.
  22. You should use a vibrator just to make sure you still have your Mojo. The first few times will be weird but once you relax and go with it WOWZERS!! After I had a tummy tuck I had no feeling in my breast or abdomen for a few years because the nerves get damaged in surgery and take a while to "reroute" themselves so could that be the problem.
  23. Going through this now (at least i'm hoping thats the problem). i have gotten so tight I can't eat much and even cold liquids like ice tea are having a hard time. I choked on mashed potato yesterday and thought I was gonna die...lol.... I am also getting heartburn at night but none during the day. I have been living on very liquidy refried beans for a few days. I can't seem to get dairy products down so beans are my next source of protein. I was doing fine and then all of the sudden my band got tight and I should start this week so I hope thats the problem. The heartburn is the worst part of it.

I had got sick and they deflated my band and when I got well I started with .5ml fills every 30 days so I really didn't make good choices and ate larger portions. We are back on track now so I guess thats all that matters.
  25. I had that experience but I figured out it isn't necessarily the protein. It is because if most of your diet is liquid then your waste will be liquid. I would be careful with immodium because once u get to eating and it is high protein then you will probably have constipation.
