  1. Have you attended a seminar yet? I also have UHC. It is getting approval this week. I found out who my surgeon will be and called to schedule an intro appt but they require me to attend a seminar first. I wish I would have known that. I now have to wait 3 weeks for that. Best of luck to you.
  2. You will probably get it before me. I just got a little more information, haven't been contacted by doctor but I called and got a kinda approval........the girl gave me the surgeons name and I called his office and asked how long it takes to get an appt and they told me i have to go to the seminar first so I scheduled that and its not until 2/23 so thats a little frustrating but then again i am going on a woman's retreat 3/4 so at least i know that wont be interrupted. Oh, the waiting game..........I think God is teaching me something LOL
  3. I have United Healthcare. I called them directly and found out that they do cover the lap band if I meet all requirements. I have only the $300 co pay. Just waiting for my Primary Care Physician to get authorization from Insurance (guess they didnt believe me.....lol) and then I am on the road to Bandland
  4. Welcome to the Forums Brayleigh. You will find a ton of personal experiences on here. I am still in the very early stages also. I am waiting for Insurance to approve so I can go meet with a surgeon. Best of luck on your appointment. Go prepared, I did and it really helped.
  5. From what I understand it is just a brand name. I'm sure if you look around forum you will find someone who knows. I thought I would answer you since nobody had and I seen your post yesterday. Best of luck. I am not banded so I dont have all the answers....lol

  9. What an inspiring story! So glad you are doing well. I imagine the pain will subside. It's a good thing you are working out too cause such rapid weight lose will end up with saggy skin but if you are exercising then you will more and likely adjust easier. I wish you the best and keep up the great work! Tanya (waiting on approval from insurance) www.tanyasweightisover.blogspot.com

  12. Hello everyone! I have been around for a short time and have even responded here and there but I wanted to formally introduce myself. My name is Tanya. I am 38 and weigh (gulp) 280 pounds. I live in California, about 1 1/2 hour drive from San Diego. I am married to a great guy (just celebrated 8 yrs) and I have a 14 year old son. I have always been heavy but in the past year there have been some rather difficult times in my life and I gained about 30 more. I have prayed that God would help me somehow and I do believe my prayers have been answered. I had my first doctor appointment to discuss with my dr the Lap Band surgery. It was awesome. After being on this site and learning so much and seeing videos on You tube I was able to walk in there and tell her what I wanted and know what I was getting into. So they are contacting my insurance to double check if it is covered (I mentioned that I called already and asked and they said yes, if deemed medically necessary). So the nurse told me to wait 10 days and call them back. That will be next friday. I am excited to get the process going.....hopefully all the documents are good and there are no problems with the insurance. I am so glad to have found this site and am so grateful for you all. Tanya
  13. I consider it a privilege to be a reader of your blog. What you are going through is tough and then there is the real life drama too. I know when I get to where you are I will be venting a lot also cause I dont want to tell a lot of people. Most people dont understand.....they think its an easy fix....just eat less blah blah blah. I told my family I didnt want anyone outside of the family knowing. I made the mistake of mentioning that I was looking into it to my ex mom in law and she said "just use a small plate"..............well then, tada.....I should be thin. Anyways, feel free to vent as much as you want, those of us who care will read and be here for you. Take care. Tanya
  14. Welcome! I am pretty new too and havent been banded yet. I have to see my dr tomorrow to discuss it. I have learned ton while here and also from videos on You tube. You should check them out. Best of luck to you. Tanya
