Eroded Band

Hi, this is my first time to this website and doing an entry. On Monday Jan 5, 2009 I woke up with pain at my port site. I saw my surgeon who ordered blood work and a CT scan. On Tuesday, still no answer about CT scan from doc, so went to the ER. They did the CT there and my surgeon was in the hospital---they all said it wasn't my band, but I had a small spot of pnuemonia on my left lung and follow-up the next day with my regular doc. Wednesday, went to doc and they did an EKG, more blood work and another CT scan (higher then the ER one). Got a call in the afternoon that the CT looked good, but my white blood cell count was 22,000---more than double the normal and wanted to admit me. Thursday was gallbladder tests and then Friday they did an endoscope to find my band had eroded thru my stomach and they removed it all. My surgeon has indicated he will NOT do the reconstruction. Not sure what all my options are to try again. Right now, I am still in a great deal of pain and the healing process this time is slow.

Anyone out there have this happen to you? What happened and what did you do?

thanks

i am very sorry vodak!

i have had port pain for a while and had my dr run several tests & it was determined i had a hernia up under the port. when i had it repaired over a wk ago it was determined i had a small infection at the port site.

i'm on a double round now of antibiotics to fight the infection - because as you know by now, it can lead to erosion. i go in tuesday for an endoscope to see if the infection has cleared...my dr told me that he's positive we caught it in time - i just have to be patient till then.

i wish you well in your healing, i think that's most important - then you can possibly look at alternative WLS's if that's your intention....get well!!
