What the HELL am I about to do to myself????

Yeah, yet another one of us at "that stage". Surgery is on Tuesday.

Made the mistake of going to the hospital today to pre-register and have the last of my lab tests done. I have a MASSIVE fear of anesthesia. Found out they won't let my hubby in the back with me when they take me into pre-op. Not real thrilled about that. When I left there I was ready to puke.

Need wisdom here fast. Trying to be brave and not bail.

The day will be here and gone before you know it. I think that you'll do fine. Anything specifically that bothers you about anesthesia?

I'm a control freak I guess.. relying on someone else to breath for me. Not being in full control of my body. I don't like drugs that alter my mind or conciousness.

Okay, I was scared you-know-what-less about the anesthesia....I mean FREAKED. Best part is that you are only out an hour or less. It goes in your body fast and leaves your body fast. The whole pre-op parts goes FAST. You are sitting there in the oh so fashionable gown waiting.....then suddenly whoosh, it's game on.

You are going to do GREAT!!! I'm a COMPLETE candy @ss about pain and about anesthesia and stuff. I'd never had ANY surgery or anything done so imagine how freaked I was!!! You'll do great. Girl, soldier up!!!! Laugh at yourself, be open and nice to the nursing staff and they will treat you SOOOOO well.

And let us know when you are through so we can coo and ooh over you and tell you what a brave little girl you were!!!

Big hugs!!!

think of a favorite beach and a favorite drink on the beach, ask them to give you that drink in your IV it will make it much more pleasant...hang in there i know its scary. But before you know it you'll be awake and walking!

I wasn't so nervous of being put under as I was the whole thing...hang in there they will give you something for your nerves and before you know it...you will be banded. Hang in there...I get my first fill on Tuesday and I am little nervous about that.

You will do great it is all worth...believe me it is.

OK here goes...I had my band on the 30th of June. I didn't like the fact my husband couldn't go back either. However, when they gave me the (silly juice) to relax me, before they put you to sleep I don't even remember telling my husband good-bye. You will be just fine. Relax and enjoy. I had alot of anxieties as well but now I look back and think I made a mountain out of a mole hill. Best of luck and welcome to the wounderful world of lap band!!!!!!!!

P.S. My next anxiety is, I have my first fill on Monday, August 8th but it is just normal for me to worry about every little thing. I am going to be brave and go this one alone.

I too was nervous about the whole thing, I told the nurse this and she said we will take good care of you. The next thing I remember was my husband telling me how great everything went and how proud he was of me. He then proceeded to make fun of my gown and surgical hat. :) But I was fine and it was all over with before I knew it. I also had my hand numbed before they did the IV, maybe you can ask if they do that, most hospitals do and will if you ask. ~Mandy

I was the biggest chicken I know - I was freaked out about the whole thing, anesthesia, IV, needles, scars (here I am obese, with stretch marks all over my stomach from 3 pregnancies and afraid of a few little scars) and not being able to eat my favorite foods - ever again. I'm only about 2 weeks out of surgery now - I'm going for my first post-op tomorrow - still a little freaked out about what I did to myself, but I'm 11.5 pounds lighter. So, I guess I did do the right thing. Me and the other women there, 5 of us were having this done, laughed and joked and craved pizza together, until they took us back one by one. We all did great, before and after. I'm sure you will too.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
