On our local news last night they reported that 2 ladies had died having RNY this past week in Des Moines at the same hospital. My understanding both surgeons had done the proceedure many times.

I think with any surgery you take the risk of death.

I am very pleased with my Doctor and with my choice of getting the band!

Funny, I was waiting in the DR office and this lady had her mind set on the Y surgery. My guess her weight was 250. Unless you want to be a size 5 in 6months and take that health risk-I just can't understand why more people are not wanting the band. It is so much safer than the Y.

Oh well!

I asked a gal in group about her choosing the RNY over the lapband and she said its because you don't have to keep going back to your surgeon every few months for the rest of your life

she was probably about 250 also
