Surgery is Set

Recommended Posts

Hey All - I just got off the phone with my Dr's office & I've been set to have surgery on Friday - Jan 23rd... :tongue2:

Now the nerves are kicking in now that reality has set in...

I tried to have the surgery before my Spring semester started but that's not going to happen... Praying that I can get back on my feet and make it to class the following week...

I know it's the best option to shed this weight, but I'm still trying to get use to the idea... :)

Are you a teacher or a student? I had a REAL easy surgery but I have to say after my friday operation I was glad I only had class (student here) that tuesday afternoon for 1/2 day. My problem was as much weakness from hunger (not a drama queen but when you only get Water and broth, you do get a little hungry LOL) as it was recovery. Can you wiggle out a couple days off?

I'm a Senior - graduating Dec '09... I have classes Mon - thru Thursday... I'll talk to my professors & get a better idea on how much I can miss without it hurting me...

Thanks for sharing & letting me know I'm not the only student going through this...

Good luck! I'm a nursing student (at 53! I'm insane!) and just honestly told them I was having lap band surgery and had wanted it earlier but it didn't happen...

they were all really nice about it. Early in the semester you'll probably be ok! It really is better to have some time; what if you still need your narcotic pain med, for example? You don't want to take that and drive, or try to take notes!

Good luck! Hope it works out well for you!

Congrats on getting your date. I'm also a student but I got lucky and my surgery was 2 days after winter break started so I've had plenty of time to recover. Are you getting excited?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
