Advice needed for a pre op!

I have finally decided that enough is enough and at a BMI of 39 its now or never. I just need some reassurance from anyone out there that this is the best thing they ever did and they don't regret it, I can handle the bad news too I just want some realistic views on this procedure and how much it costs out of pocket with top health cover (full hospital etc) and is there anyone out there who does the procedure on Ezyclaim as my insurance will fully cover it then. Anyway thats not the biggest issue, I'm getting this done no matter what the cost but just cant seem to get any kind of cost info approx or otherwise. I would have an appointment today only that every single clinic is shut for xmas. Is it really worth it when it can get "undone" with the same old bad habits? Is it just a good kick start or is it really a long term solution? and what is the whole pre op diet thing about.....if I could go 2 weeks on liquids with my huge stomach capacity I wouldn't need the op!!! HELP! I am not scared of pain or any of that I'm scared that like every other diet aid - I will make it fail through bad habits and emotional over eating!

Hey Tas,

Stick in there. I started the optifast on the 3rd or Jan with 2 optifast and a careful meal, then on Monday I started the 3 optifast and I have lost 9 kilo's already. The optifast does get better. I am not saying that I don't want to eat coz I do but keep remembering the big picture.

We only have 12 days left we can do it !!!!!!

Hi, My dietitian says that complete and sudden withdrawal of carbohydrates gives people a terrible headache so I have to have 4days of partial carbohydrate before the two weeks of protein only.

Hi all,

Thanks sunshine its so cool knowing we are doing the same thing at the same time, i fell sooooooo much better today. how are you going? how is your wii going? i plan on using the wii fit after op, its harder then it looks.

have you done all your shopping yet? im getting excited now.

Hi joyco

One good thing i havnt been hungry hahah yet.

But thanks to sunshine i didnt quit and now fri morning i feel sort of normal. Do you have to have Optifast? when is your op?

Bye for now tas

Hi All,

I'm on day four of 2 Optifast and normal dinner. Trying to keep the carbs to a minimum so when I switch to 3 Optis on Wednesday its not such a shock to the system!

I never thought I'd say it about an Optifast product, but the berry crunch bars are YUM. I think I'll be making the most of those lol

I've come down with a cold, which is crap and not helping the exercise situation, so only light walking for the moment!

How is everyone else going?

I know quite a few people who have had the surgery, but I'd love to keep in contact with those who are having the surgery around the same time as me!

Hi Leah

I to came down with a cold when i started 2 opti a day.

Now i have broncitics and stressing coz my op is Tues week. i sooooo dont want it postponed.

Make sure you look after yourself. ( i didnt kept working and exercising)

Im on day 5 of full opti Easy now, Just hope cheast clears soon.

Re the constipation stuff. It may have just been me but I found that the coffee Optifast kept me regular for some reason. It may work for others.

Hey Tas,

How are you going? Did you make it through the weekend ok ? I must admit I had a bad day on Friday, I could have packed it in but I didn't. Today I feel fine I find that I am not hungary it is the thought of eating something solid and Savoury that I have to get over.

We are on the downward road now only 7 days to go. Woo Hoo.

I have lost 12 kilo's so far and have to go to the surgeon on Friday to get weighed so he should be pleased, He only wanted me to loose 8.

Keep thinking positive.

Hi Guys,

I start my full Optifast tomorrow. I can feel I am going to struggle... I am sick of the bars already after a week of 2 opti and one meal and I regurgitated the dessert I made for Breakfast this morning!

Cottees light topping is my saviour at the moment. It makes the chocolate shakes bearable. I am about to go raid Woolies for other stuff to make them taste better!!! What has worked for you??

On the plus side, I have lost 3.2kgs in this past week - surgeon wanted me to lose around 5kgs before surgery, so well on my way...!!
