Does Insurance ever pay for any ps?

It is rare to have insurance that will cover it for cosmetic purposes but there are a few that do. You are more likely to get coverage if it can be deemed medically necessary (like if the excess skin is causing motion problems, pain or rashes).

To add the to earlier reply, even medically necessary PS isn't the same as self-pay. My insurance would have covered a medically-necessary skin removal, but not ALL the work that is normally covered in a tummy tuck.

Best to plan on paying out of pocket, and start working out the finances early in the WLS process.

In CA, they almost always pay for a breast reduction and they will pay for the removal of the panus but not for a full tummy tuck (i.e., no muscle repair). But that's about it.

Some PS will work with you and have insurance pay for the panus removal and only charge you the difference to do the rest -- since a tummy tuck includes removing that flap of skin.

This works out well for me since I need a breast reduction and you can't do that without also lifting so I'll get that too. :thumbup:

I'm in CA too w/ a PPO insurance plan, and people everywhere, med clinics, lab techs, etc. keep telling me that PPOs are paying for many PS's after bariatric surgeries.

I have my upper GI Wednesday for pre-op. First things first, I have make sure my ins covers the band first.

I'll believe the PS coverage when I see it, but I sure won't turn it down if it turns out to be true. :-)
