Smelly Breath?!?!?!?!?

I have been banded now for 5 days and I am on liquids only for the next 4 weeks. I have noticed that my breath smells and no matter how often i brush my teeth, my mouth just feels 'unclean'.:ermm

Has anyone else experienced this, of so how long did it last?

I have been told that I can never have gum again as it creates too much gas in the stomach, so that is a no no!

I bet once you start eating food (mushies) it will go away.

I remember getting Ketosis breath when I was on Atkins diet. The only thing they said that would help was time and chewing on celery sticks.. OY~

I am so glad when somebody posts about a topic that I am dealing with. I have been banded for 8 months now and my breath is out of control! I have dealt with OCD's my whole life and it has been a common practice for me to brush my teeth as many as 10 times a day. I carry a toothbrush everywhere. I have beautiful white teeth and am very proud of them.

My bad breath has to be due to my band, my diet, digestion, etc. I am horrified by this situation. I take Breathassure everyday. Nothing works.

Along the same lines, the breath combined with the uncontrollable burping make my dating life complicated. I live in fear that I am going to open my mouth to kiss some guy and a weird stomach gurgle/burp comes flying out.

Tell ma about it!! I am also worried about it!! My breath is not too terrible, but it could certainly be better! I know it will be better when solids start, but in the meantime dating sucks!! HEHE - No gum?? I have never heard that! Is it true?? If so, I am SOOSOOOOO SCREWED!!!

hi guys,

I posted awhile back about Therabreath...it's great stuff and really works..you can get it at Walgreens...it's pricey but well worth it....

There is toothpaste, mouthwash and a spray that you can carry around with you.

Here's the link if you want to research it: www.therabreath.com

Okay, right after I was banded and still on liquids my tounge had this gross white paste and my teeth would get furry after only a few hours after brushing. I happened to have a teeth cleaning during that time and asked my hygenist if I had thrush. She said no, it was just because of the liquids. Once I went to mushies it went away.

I also have "ketosis" breath since I'm low carbing, but that's a WHOLE other thang.

Like I said, Because I struggle with obsessive complusive disorder, I brush my teeth as many times as 10 times a day or more. Always have gum with me. I havent heard about not chewing gum? Mouthwash is always in my purse, car and backback. Kinda a funny sidenote, a few people have asked me if I am an alcoholic because I am always concerned about my breath. ALcoholics are always using mouthwash and gum and use tons of visine. Sorry, I could only handle one addiction at a time. But now that I got the weight thing figured out, maybe I'll look into either excessive drinking, drugs, or random sexual acts with strange men. :)

Have tried therabreath, breathassure, and herbal tablets. Chlorophyl tablets and much more. My next move is trying to drink even more Water than I do already.

Legallyblonde....just quick thought....having been down the OCD road myself. I would suggest that perhaps your breath isn't as bad as you think it is. I think you are obessing on it and you think it's bad when really it's not.

Very interesting thought. I try to live a prescription free life but may need to go back on wellbutrin to get my OCD's under control again. It worked once.

Had a great date tonight. Made out with a super hot guy and didn't burp/gurgle/growl or worry about my breath that much. I ate liquids only today and drank tons of Water.

Now having a hard time with how to tell him why I eat so funny. Gives me a hard time about eatting slow and small portions. I don't want to tell him or anyone else about my band. It is just not sexy.

Thanks for the advice.

Ok, I have some nonmedical input here. I am a body piercer and when we do tongue piercing we reccomend liquids and soft foods for 7-10 days. I was told my my hygenist that the white coating is from no solid food scraping the "old" cells away and it is normal. I am on day 9 of liquids and I bought one of those little tongue scraper thingys at walgreens for like $1.49 and I have a nice pink tongue and thanks to sugarfree mints I have great breath. Just a thought, maybe I am wrong but who knows maybe for a change I actually know what I am talking about :) . As everyone else has said once something a bit more "solid" is going in it will resolve itself, until then consider a scraper thingy. ~Mandy

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
