Change in thyroid after banding?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

all of a sudden my thyroid, which has been very slow, is overactive (just had new blood work done). I'm thinking it's the almost 70 pounds off. I took a lower dose when I was thinner years ago, so maybe I just need less. Less body, thyroid works better so I need less meds????

Anyone else experience this or have any other ideas?

Thanks

I know several people who had to have their meds adjusted after losing weight.

But no personal experience... sorry!

I don't know the answer but I think it's a fair guess to say that losing 70lbs has definitely affected your whole system, especially your metabolism. Not just the weight loss itself, but the fact that you are probably eating healthier foods and less carbs and junk food.

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is an auto-immune disease of the thyroid. Basically your body attacks the thyroid as if it was a foreign agent! The result is a low or non-functioning thyroid gland.....and the thyroid is what controls your metabolism. That explains why hypothyroid patients gain weight while hyper (over active) thryoid patients lose weight.

I would definitely suggest discussing with your endocrinologist.....you may need a reduction of your Synthroid....

Congrats on the weight loss!!

Hi Gwen, I usually take 100mgs of Thyroxine daily. I had a routine blood test last week and for the first time in years found that I am now taking too much. My Dr has prescribed alternate nights taking 1, 100mg and on the next night 50mg. I'm not really sure how long I have to do this for though as I didn't speak to her directly. I don't think my metabolism has sped up though. I am going for a fill next week as I am very hungry. It may have something to do with it. Wouldn't it be great to have a really fast metabolism?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
