What is "PB"ing?

Recommended Posts

It stands for productive burping....its basically when you bring food up again. But this can been avoided by eating slowly and chewing your food really well...

i got the following from:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adjustable_gastric_band

A commonly reported occurrence for banded patients is regurgitation of non-acidic swallowed food from the upper pouch, commonly known as Productive Burping (PBing). Productive Burping is not to be considered normal. The patient should consider eating less, eating more slowly, or chewing their food more thoroughly. Occasionally, the narrow passage into the larger / lower part of the stomach may become blocked by a large portion of unchewed or unsuitable foodstuf

:) I have read several posts talking about "PB'ing". Can anyone tell me what PB is? I assume it is unpleasant.

Its what I just did, ugh.

On Soup no less. I can eat bread, I can eat rice, I can eat red meat. But I cannot eat vegetable Soup. Why do I persist in trying?

I'm late for an appointment now.

PBing is not pleasant, but not too dreadful either. Its more inconvenient (and embarrassing if the need occurs in public). Its not uncontrollable, you're not likely to puke at the dinner table, but it is annoying to be locked in the bathroom with everyone waiting for you.

Thank god, it doesnt happen often for me, only a couple of times in three years.

And I thought "slimming" was bad.

Okay here is a questions. I burp a lot, but this is different right????? I that thought that since I would be eating slower, smaller amounts that the regular burping would go away - no sodas too, I am a Diet Pepsi addict.

:tt2:

I am slowly going off the diet pepsi, but after 30 years it is harder than you think. :whatchutalkingabout

Hey!

Yes burping is different from PB'n as you are bringing up gas/air. And from what you have said hun, the extra gas is coming from your diet pepsi. I hear that even if you shake the fizz out, you can never totally get it all out. And again...you prob know this 2....but we gotta try and stay away from the fizz...as it can stretch the pouch.

but....i do sympathise.....i used to be a coke zero addict...and have been slowly weening myself of it....i can say that i have been coke zero free for a month!! woooo! :crying::thumbup:

Okay, what is "slimming"? Is it gross?

Sliming usually precedes pbing and it is when your body creates a lot of saliva in your mouth and mucus in your stomach to aid in throwing the stuck item(s) back up.

You really need to give up the carbonated drinks. The nurse in my Dr. office decided she still wanted her Dr. Pepper after her band was place and she ended up having it taken out. The pouch expanded and caused slippage. I gave up any sodas and don't miss them. Also, for those of you out there that might like things like Jim Beam fruit punches or small bottles of those types of things, I contacted Jim Beam and found out they are carbonated also. So steer clear of those too.

I am now 1 week free of Diet Pepsi. I have drank diet sodas for 35 years, Weight Watchers told me I could drink all the diet sodas I wanted, so I did - egads. Any the addiction was strong and I weined myself off, but I was told

NO CARBONATED drinks. They will stretch your pouch and are very counter productive.

Besides I have had chronic gastritis and GERD for years and years. No more pain and I haven't had reflux in over a week. Amazing, maybe I should have listened to the Doctors years ago, nothing like a diet pepsi first thing in the am.

I have only PB'd twice, but I slime all the time. I know it's probably because I still have a problem with eating fast. I have gotten better, but it is a hard habit to break.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
