Port hiding

I went for my first fill yesterday and after much sticking and probing the doctor decided to send me to have it done under fluorscope. Then he mentioned the bad things i.e., port could be flipped, scar tissue. Should I be worried or could it be he just couldnt find the center of the port? Help, I am flipping out.

I'm sure it will be fine, Tanya. Don't flip out yet!!! When do you go for your flouro fill? People with flipped ports get fills all the time. No biggie, it just takes a very skilled fill person, I'd guess. They will be able to do something with the flouro, I'm sure. Please don't panic!

Thanks Kathy,

I was thinking flipped port meant surgery. If they can do it even though it's flipped I'm not gonna trip out. Thanks for the encouragement.

Tanya,

My port is all topsy turvy. Not really flipped but definitely impossible to access in the normal office visit. I have to get flouro everytime and the doctor sees no reason to do port revision surgery because of it at this point. I actually am happy I get the flouro everytime. I get to see the position of everything and that it is still all fine and that makes me feel more secure. Let us know how the next visit goes. Teresa

Tanya,

I went last week to get a fill, and to my surprise my Dr. couldn't find my port either. I was getting ready to flip out too, but I ran into a "band friend" and she said it prob. has turned alittle, and not to worry. So I am trying not to worry, and I will find out friday when I go get the flouro, and I will let you know how I made out.

Good luck to you!!!!

Thanks everyone. I have read many of the threads after I did a search on flouro and it does seem rather common so I have calmed down a bit. I'll let everyone know how it all works out for me. Good luck to you Sue.

Thought I would let you know that I went on Friday, and everything was fine, my port was kind of tilted, that was it. I hope yours goes well too!!!!

The port thing is sooooooooooooooooo visible under the Flouro, I think the worst case scenerio would be under the scope fills instead of regular ones. I work with a great many RN and patiens who have ports for other reasons - cancer, CF etc. ANd the ports are usually preety darn reliable.

Hang in there - hope it turns out to be nothing!
