I eat spicy food and sip as needed. Also, I don't abstain from liquids BEFORE I eat. Why would you? If liquids push food through your pouch then the liquid itself would flow right through as well. I even asked my Dr. about this and he said,"I don't know who came up with the 'no drinking before meals' thing, but it makes no sense."

I agree with CindiLooWho re: the drinking before meals.

As far as the spicy food thing goes, I am only a couple days post op but love spicy food. I just sip with my food and once I am on regular food I will just limit my spicy meal to a few times a week and drink fluids with it. Since I am following the plan I doubt these few meals with fluid will make or break it for me. JMHO
