Bad Stomach Pains

I was banded May 8 & it has been hell ever since. First it was recovery, & now lots of gas & actual stomach pain, not shoulder kind. I have tried everything for the gas without any luck. My doctor doesn't seem to be much help either. "continue to use gas-x" is all he says. Maybe I'm eating stuff that doesn't agree but nothing has stuck & it's not that kind of pain. Has anyone had this problem? I've had 1 fill last week but still no restriction at all. Does anyone newly banded have these problems?

I am sorry you are feeling so bad.

Here is what I can tell you about what foods to avoid. Most foods that contain carbohydrates produce gas, some more than others, but Proteins are best because they cause very little gas.

Carbs that cause the most gas are Pasta, potatoes, corn, Beans, peas, cabbage, broccoli, onions, artichoke and asparagus.

Getting your Protein from meat would be better for you right now because there are sugars in dairy products like milk, ice cream and cheese that can also add to your problem and of course beans can really cause you pain.

For safer carbs try eating foods containing insoluable Fiber like wheat, rye, bran, green beans and cauliflower. Also avoid frying your food and avoid gravies.

If you are taking anything containing psyllium for constipation, that may be contributing to your problem too.

I read on here yesterday that someone went to a chiropractor to work out the gas.... I hope you feel better.

It took me an entire month before I got rid of the gas pains. The gas strips didn't help me at all because the gas wasn't in my stomach, it was left over from surgery. I had to lay down on my bed and put my feet on the headboard and twist back and forth then sit up and bend over...It really helped with my pains. I hope you get to feeling better soon!
