Motorcycle fun

I'll be going home in a few weeks, and I'm going to start bugging my DH to fix the motorcyle he bought for me. He bought me a Yamaha 500cc bike, and I think it is a virago model, but don't quote me on that. I do know it is one of the "V" bikes though.

As a reward for my DH getting his band, I enrolled him in a motorcycle saftey class, since that is something he always wanted to do, but felt like his weight was a barrier. (he weighed close to 600 pounds when he took the class.... )

Okay a quick poll, how many have bikes, and how many are frequent riders?

How many bikes to you own collectively? 2

what kind of bikes, and how big? both are Yamaha kawasaki Vulcan bikes, DH as a 750cc, mine is a 500cc

do you always wear protecive gear? if not, why not? I always wore full-face helmet, gloves, boots, heavy jacket. or a rain-suit. Didn't always wear good pants.

have you ever taken a safety class? yes, I took the CHP safety course

have you every had an serious accident? Yes, please see below

I used to be an avid rider. I say "used to" becaue I had a terrible accident when my son was a baby. Not only did I have to deal with the trama from the actual accident, but I also had to deal with doctors from hell who thought it would be a good idea to torture me and inflict emotional damage. (they would debreeed my leg without any pain medications, then yell at me for crying and tell me things like "so I guess you won't ever ride a motorcycle again, RIGHT?!)

I had to have one of the skin graphs redone a few years back, and the plastic surgeon who did the new one was an avid bike rider. He told me that every couple of years someone would come in in such terrible shape that he would sell his bike. Then he would buy a new one a year or so later. He really encouraged me to start riding again.

You must live right near me, we live right off 1382 too! I can't believe we are neighbors! Now we will have to meet! We live just north of 20 a bit, right across from the soccer fields, so where on 1382 do you live???? This is getting really interesting! :):D:D

How cool. We are just south of I-20 just past camp wisdom. There is a new subdivision on the left as you are going south. Foxcreek is the turn-off street and we live on Wisdom creek. How wonderful. I know exactly where you guys are. We shall have to PM and arrange to meet sometime. I just got to meet Beckyintexas this weekend. She and her Husband came out to our show in the colony saturday night and we had a blast. They are some great people.

Yup, I know exactly where that is too! Actually we watched them build that subdivision, we ride that way all the time. We have a boat out at Joe Pool lake at the Marina. Do you ever go out there? Gosh, we live so close to each other! How cool! Definately have to plan to meet sometime soon!

Ironically we never go to Joe Poole. My brother -in-law has a cruiser on Possum Kingdom and we go out there quite often. I am in the process of buying land just outside of Athens and hoping to build my dream home there in about 5 years. There's a place called safari waters ranch and they actually have zebra, elk and axis deer on the property. Plus they have 3 lakes stocked with Florida Bass. That's my goal. To get back to the country. I think it would be nice to drink my morning coffee while I watch Zebra in my backyard. :-) PLus I work at home so there's no commuting I have to worry about.

Wow, now that would be a dream house! That sounds wonderful! We have some friends on Athens Lake.

We go to Possum Kingdom lake a couple times a year for a long weekend, We usually go over Memorial day weekend, but this year my niece is graduating medical school over that weekend, so we will be at that instead. She actually graduated in January but the main event is over Memorial Day Weekend. I love Possum Kingdom it is so pretty there., and Hell's gate is neat to go through. Are you one of those boats that is lined up in there? :)

Well, we'll have to meet somehow, keep posting where you are playing, and maybe we can meet up then.

He is usually there in Hells gate on memorial day weekend. he has a 42' cruiser. Really nice. I am so jealous. But I get to use it too so I guess it's better than making the payments. :-) I am usually in Arkansas on that weekend. I will definitely let everyone know when we are playing. Thanks.

They usually have a big to do in Severance Colo ( Home of the best Rocky Mountain Oysters) is any one coming down this way???

Cause if you are I would make the trip out with my boys to see all the cool bikes and meet you all..

oh Betty that is too bad maybe another time.

I found out what it's called " The Nut Run" and it is on Sept 18th we never go cause we do not ride or even own a bike but we love to see them ride by.

Let me tell you a story about my Dear Husband

He had been home recovering from Heart Surgery when one day I got home and he said he needed to tell me something but wanted me to promise I was not going to get mad or hit him (like I would beat him) anyway at first I said no just tell me but finally I said ok I promise both things. So he says you know the neighbors boy and the bike he has one of the little motor cross bikes I say yeah why? Well my husband got on it that day and was driving down the block to the corner and when he came upon the stop sign realized there were no breaks so to not pass the stop sign he through him and the bike side ways and wrecked. Now at this point we are looking at a surgery that cost above a good 30 thousand and to top it off he could have died. Boy was I pissed but I promised he ever got back on that bike I was gonna hurt him something awful.

Hey! Hey! Hey! Take it easy on the guy......... :-) I can relate to what he did. He just had surgery and probably felt like he would never be the same again. So to prove to himself he was no different than before he jumped on that bike. I have done the same thing although I haven't had heart surgery. While in the service I was stationed in the Phillipines and got very ill once I got there. Jungle fever is what the doc called it. I was in the hospital for 2 days with IV's stuck in me getting the fluids back in. So what did I do when I got released. Went and ran a 6 mile run to qualify for the squadrons football team. How stupid I do agree. Well I did finish the run but was back in the hospital that very night with more IV's plugged in. OK...........I agree. Men are stupid.

However I would love to try those mountain oysters as crazy as that sounds. Perhaps I'm fishing for any excuse to buy a new bike. Some people might call that being desperate. :-)

We went Harley riding Saturday, we went over to spend my gift certificate that I won. We had to get up on some of the big highways, so that meant going fast.

Well, lately my Harley shirts have gotten pretty loose on me, but since they are so expensive, I keep wearing them. Well, we were riding up on Loop 12, and my shirt started coming up my back. I used my cb radio and told my hubby my shirt was coming up my back, and he ask if I wanted to stop, and I said no, I don't think it will hurt for someone to see my back a little. Well, the next thing I knew my shirt was up to my neck, (front and back) and the only thing that was holding it on at all was my arms

Now, I used my radio to call and tell him yes, I needed to stop because I was showing everything I had to everyone! One guy was actually flashing his lights at me!

My DH said "Don't worry, you have on a black bra and it looks like a sport bra, so just relax till we can find an exit" Yeah right!

Anyway, we finally got to an exit and pulled off and needless to say I tucked my shirt in my pants! I have never been one to wear my shirt tucked in, but I certainly wore it that way the rest of the time we were riding.
