New Insurance

I just changed jobs so I could have the lap band surgery covered. My old job excluded it in its benefits. Does anyone know how long the waiting period is with new insurance before I can have surgery?

Gypsynurse, if you had no lapse between coverages there should be no waiting period or pre-existing condition exclusions. This is a federal regulation under HIPAA. Check with your benefits administrator to be sure; you may need to provide proof of your prior coverage. If you can provide that and if there was no lapse or a very short lapse, you should be good to go as of your effective date!

My husband's insurance took effect in November and because I had had no lapse in coverage they covered me for the surgery. My first consult was in December.

Thanks for the info on my insurance! Now my heart is pounding with excitement thinking I may get the surgery sooner rather than later...(wooohoo) I've been so afraid I would have to wait a year to get my surgery. It's all I think about. I have my paperwork started and attended the seminar last week with Dr Fox.
