First Fill

Recommended Posts

I'm heading out in a few hours to see my doctor and hopefully get my first fill. Surprisingly enough I'm not very nervous... yet. I plan to not watch so that I don't see that great big needle I keep hearing about. My doc is pretty conservative so I don't expect to feel any restriction afterwards.

How many of us December bandsters have already gotten filled? What amount of fill did your doctor give you?

Curious minds want to know :-)

I have the larger band I got 5cc in a 10cc band. I am on liquids today and tomorrow. but I just chugged a bottle of Water and it all went thru smooth.

It is weird...I used to ONLY drink really cold water....now I dont want it too cold because I feel it going thru and that is too weird.

I got 1.5cc in a 10cc band . . .he had more in, but I started burping and could feel a rock in my chest, so he backed off. I notice a difference in the morning when I'm eating . . . have to go slow. The rest of the day is the same as it was before. However, my weight had basically stalled before the fill last week . . . and now it is starting to slowly move again. Yea! Good luck!

I had 3 cc put in at surgery. I guess for some bands that is normal. It is to help it seat itself. At my first fill I got 2 cc's put in. I feel some restriction while drinking, sort of like a funnel effect, early in the morning and late at night. My eating habits are catching up with me since being filled because now, when I don't chew well, I feel it.

Good luck! The needle wasn't as bad as I worked myself up to think it would be....but I didn't "watch" the whole time.

Well I'm home and filled :-) I have the 10cc AP band and my doc says that I had 3ccs at surgery and then he put 2cc in today. So I have 5cc and I can feel a little bit of restriction when drinking. We have to drink a 8 ounce bottle of Water before leaving the office and I was able to do that with no problems but I could feel it going down and I couldn't chug it so I am happy. I hope this sticks around.

My "food" for the day is a smoothie from Planet Smoothie... 22oz and it's got whey Protein added... it should take me all day to drink it. LOL

Mushies tomorrow and the next day if I need them, but then I'm finally free to go back to "real" foods. Yippeeee!

Thanks for all of your replies!!!!

I had surgery 12/17 and had fill today done under flouroscope. It really was not bad at all. It is a funny feeling when the doctor fills the band up and then pulls the Fluid back to optimum level (without completely shtting the flow of Fluid, etc). There is a very small amount of pressure in the chest for a few moments at that point. But it is nothing to be feared at all (for those of you who haven't gone for the first fill yet).

I had this done at 2:00 p.m. and was back in work by 3. Right now I just have that funny gas feeling (like needing a burp) like I had after the surgery. I feel a little hungry but then I just sip about an ounce of Water and the feeling goes way for 5 - 10 minutes. I am staying on Clear Liquids for three days, then full liquids for a couple of days before venturing into actual food.

Good luck to december 2007 bandsters and any one else venturing into this thread.

After my fill I also was burping for hours...

Well was on mushie day after fill, so I decided to try some Soup with some meat... i didnt even finish half, seem like more like 1/4 with 2 fish cake. I think the fill tightness is working...

I had a fill this week - 5 ml in my APL (14 ml) band. I can definitely feel cold Water going through slower than it did before the fill, and I can only drink about 4 oz, compared to the easy 8 oz before the fill. I'm not expecting this to be perfect restriction, but I'm hoping once I start solids again I'll have at least a little more than I did!

I have a second fill appointment in 3 weeks, on the 13th of Feb.

I'm scheduled for my first fill 1/30. I'm nervous and dont think I will have one. I'm doing great and am not hungry.

Maybe, I should just get it over with.

The fill wasn't bad at all. To me it was less painful than a vaccination. It was a little weird to have a needle hanging out while they syringed the Fluid in and out, but not particularly painful.

You might be one of the lucky ones who has restriction right away and doesn't need a fill. I thought I might be, then I went from totally satisfied on 4 oz at three weeks post-op to feeling hungry despite 8 oz servings and a snack or two at four-and-a-half weeks post-op. So wait and see how you're doing - maybe you won't need a fill :-)

HTH-

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
