how long does the band last

I asked my doc how long a band can be in a person's body. He told me until they die. Well I am 30, does that mean I could have the same band for 60 years? My insurance only pays for this once. I think insurances are changing but until then I hope I don't have to have it replaced. Does anyone have and figures on this?
