Roberta's surgery - Dec 28th

Thought I would start a little diary of my experience of going through surgery.

I am seriously contemplating posting a video diary on youtube, but I am worried some weirdo might say something bad (and hurt my feelings, you know, I have to admit it).

I have a little over 24 hours now until my surgery. I am really, really excited. I have waited three months now since my consult. This is the first surgery in my life (well, except for my breast reduction) where I am actually glad to go under the knife! What a difference eh? (yup, I'm from Canada, eh?).

I think I have all the supplies I need -

gas x

peppermint tea

heat pad

sf popsicles

broth

also I can make homemade turkey broth as well

cold packs

Did I miss anything?

I have so many thoughts going through my head right now.... I spoke with my husband earlier (we have been together for 10 years now, married for five). I told him I was worried how he would react when I start losing weight. We have been together through thick and thin. He recently gave me a huge ring for xmas saying that he loves me and always will. I was about 180 lbs (really fit though) when I met him, so he knows what I look like smaller. I know that he isn't as sexually attracted to me as he used to be, hell if I was a man I wouldn't be attracted to my body either! However, he has never said anything, and before when I was first starting to gain weight, he told me he really hated it when I put myself down, and asked me to stop. Since that time I have never said I hate my body, I look fat, etc. etc. (which is good, as since then we had two children, and I don't want to pass on my body image issues to my girls.)

Anyways I have to run and go watch Walk the Line (god I love digital cable, I just paused the movie, it's on a regular TV channel, sooo cool!).

I will also post a pic soon.

Take care all

Hi there! I was also banded on Dec 28th! It has been much more difficult than I thought it would be. I guess I just wanted to believe it was easy. Are you having trouble eating (well if thats what you want to call swallowing liquids)?? I can hardly eat anything at all. I am pretty much stuck on slim fast and tomato soup. I hope its going better for you : )

Hi Roberta! Thanks for all the surgery info. Sounds like you are doing well. Did you have to find a dietician on your own or did your doctor send you to one? Joyce

Hi Joyce,

the nutritionist works at the hospital..my doctor didn't send me to her...his post-op diet and hers are completely different, so I'm kinda taking the middle road on it...still on liquids like he wants, but no solids like she wants me to.

Oh wow, I'm not sure if I should say you are lucky or to say sorry!:smile:For the first week whenever I drank everything 'bubbled up' and I had to burp after every single drink... and I could barely drink anything, I filled up so fast. Is that what you are going through? That's where I lost most of my weight.

Now it's different, it's like I don't have the band in me.

26 more days until my first fill.

No, It just get a really bad pain and it feels like (and sometimes does) its going to come back up. Its getting a little better. I was able to eat some vegetable soup today and eat some of the vegetables that were soft and mushy. But even that after just about half of it gave me that horrible feeling.

Airika, I was banded on the 28th as well and I can say I def don't have that problem. I am actually eating fish and chicken and soft veggies no problem. I almost wish I had that kind of restriction but not here. I go on the 28th of this month and hopefully I will get a fill. I would call your Dr if it gets any worse. I know everyone is different so don't sweat it too much. Good luck!!

Thanks so much guys. Actually today was A LOT better! I was able to eat Chicken Noodle Soup including the noodles! Also I had a small slice of thin crispy crust pizza, It was actually went ok too. So I think I am finally healing ok. I guess I am just a little slower at healing than others :)

269!!!

I haven't weighed in the 260's since 2006!

I'm using my BODYBUGG now. I almost achieved my target deficit of 1600 calories, I reached 1356 :(. My goal is to lose 3 lbs a week so that I can be at my goal weight by the end of this year.

Hi all,

just wanted to post an update.

I had my second fill on Monday and since then I have lost approx. 10 lbs. Unbelievable. I was about 271 then weighed myself this morning and I am at 260.8.

My total now is 26 lbs since Dec 28th.

My knees aren't hurting as much when I go down the stairs now. A few days ago I had to grip the railing and go down really really slow. My knees feel soooooooo much better now.

I am at 7.5 cc's in a 9 band.

you using bodybugg also?? heh me 2.

I'm eatting like 1.1k-1.3k cal day and burning about 3.8k on my busy day (gym+2job) and 1.1k-1.3k cal and burning 2.8k (gym+1job)... my 1 job i dont move around much... desk job but other job im on foot for hours.

Good luck on your weight lost... im sure you going to make it since you watching your cal intake and burning closely.

Quick question.. did you purchase the digital display also? I was thinking but if I keep working out morning and work during day... i can always check at night at home if I need to go to gym that day at night... just my thought ;p
