It happened- I got canceled

I literally posted about this a couple weeks ago. I was worried that with surging covid cases, they would shut down the elective surgeries again. My surgery was scheduled for tomorrow. This morning about 10 am, the nurses called me to give me instructions for pre-surgery. Then they called me at noon to tell me they were canceling me.

The worst part is that my husband lost his job, and I’m losing my insurance. This isn’t going to happen for me. I’m devastated. I’ve been crying since they told me. I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do now. I’ve been on liquids for a week. I just feel like.... I have jumped through every one of the hoops for this insurance. I waited months the first time the hospitals were shut down. Finally got a consult. Finally got a date. Made it to THE DAY BEFORE.... I just don’t even know.

They did say that they would schedule me back as soon as they could, that I’d be at the front of the line, since I was among the very first canceled. I’m not going to hold my breath, but I’m trying to

Yes. Through Kaiser.

I had also done my covid testing & registration at the hospital. Literally all that was left was to go back for the procedure. It was heartbreaking. No beds. I called today to find out if they might know when they might be able to start rescheduling, and they just said no, we have to take it day by day. Not holding my breath.

I had the same surgeon and i was canceled back in January it really sucks. I don't know if you are through Kaiser but you can call your bariatric case worker and see if they can get you in at another facility i know west la and a few other facilities are still doing surgeries and there are cancelations all the time. My friend who was canceled did this and got in a few weeks later. It's worth a shot. Good Luck and hope you can get something figured out.

I'm sorry to hear this. This happened to me last year. I was like 3 days or so out from my appointment and it was cancelled because of covid and then again because they wanted clearance from a cardiologist before they put me under anesthesia. It's so heartbreaking. I gained weight back and then it was almost cancelled again because it was much higher than my starting weight. If i was any more than 10 lbs over my initial weigh in, they'd cancel it the day of... like someone stated earlier, use this for fuel. Use this time to try to work on and hone your post-surgery skills.

I hope this all works out for you!

I’m so sorry this has happened. I can feel your anguish in your words. I hope some how and some way you’re able to see this through. Hugs!
