Pre-op diet starts tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

Hello friends! Sorry I've been a bit absent lately. So I've got my surgery date- August 6. Doing the sleeve with Ultimate Bariatrics in Fort Worth. I start my 2 weeks pre-op diet tomorrow which consists of Protein Shakes, sugar free Jello, pudding, and popsicles, and Soup for dinner. The last 2 days are Clear Liquids only. Any tips for getting through this pre-op part would be appreciated because I have a feeling I'm going to be hungry a lot. I've been having a lot of food funerals, took photos and measurements, I've got my Vitamins and stuff. Thanks everyone!

Hi Luellajean! I’m an August 3 sleever in NYC. I’m on day 4 of pre-op diet and it’s been a STRUGGLE. I hate all of the Protein Shakes, but can moderately stand Premier Protein brand. I live for sugar free popsicles, broth and my coffee. I must be taking in less than 600 calories! Have already lost 8 lbs. it was really rough going for me first 2 days, like headaches, general not feeling well, but woke up on day 3 feeling pretty darn good. Have you started your pre-op?

Hi! I’m in N. Fort Worth. Alliance Corridor.
If you drink enough Protein and Water and keep busy, you really won’t be that hungry. You’ll THINK YOU ARE because you miss food, but you really will be fine. Just keep drinking and stay busy.
I had my surgery in mid-May. Different bariatric group.

Hi Screwballski!

I agree with the staying busy, my surgeon recommended not watching TV to avoid food commercials and I’ve unfollowed all recipe pages on social media, lol. Been reading a ton of books, that’s really helping me stay busy.

Any advice for us nervous pre-ops? How was your experience?

My experience was fantastic. My post surgery pain was only due to a previous back injury and the way I was positioned during surgery. Had I thought to mention it prior, I would not have had any pain at all. No other surgery related pain. I was up and walking immediately, doing as many laps as they’d allow.
Mine was a band to sleeve revision. My BMI was 30 on the day of surgery so I know things may have been a bit easier for me. Post op was a breeze. Just over two months out, I’m eating just about anything but I follow the Protein first route (and never get beyond that because I’m full immediately)!
I take juice Plus capsules, my supplements and my primary says I’m fit as can be!
I know you’re nervous. It’s natural. But this is a wonderful experience. Take it as it comes and don’t worry about what hasn’t yet happened and “scary stories” you’ve heard. Enjoy every day as it comes. You are doing something amazing for yourself!

Thanks for sharing! My BMI is about 38%, so I’m hoping for a similar smooth ride!

I’m nervous but mostly filled with good nerves and anticipation.

I’ll look into the juice plus supplements, and so happy to hear about being full after smaller portions, that’s definitely the goal :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
