Flu after surgery?

I am 16 days post op and my son just came down with the flu. Whenever anyone in my house gets sick I always catch whatever they have. My throat is already itching and I'm afraid of busting a stitch from coughing. I plan on calling my doctor tomorrow. Has anyone else gotten sick after surgery?

If he got a flu test you may be able to get a prescription for tamiflu now, which could help you avoid it totally or lessen it. The risk is it can make you nauseous (I’d rather have the flu myself!).

See what your DR suggests. You will probably be fine, but I’m sure it won’t be pleasant. The biggest risk is dehydration.

Echinacea has always worked for me, but check with your doctor. If you do start coming down with something be extremely mindful of dehydration. Even ‘normal’ people have a hard time staying hydrated with the flu. Because we can only take in a limited amount of Fluid at a time, we are extremely at risk. Just keep in touch with your team. Sending good thoughts your way! I caught a cold a week after surgery, the sneezing was absolutely brutal on my sore muscles.
