phases for RnY

Hello. I am wondering if anyone can spread some light on the two phases after Post Op.

The Weight loss Stage vs the Maintenance Stage.

How long does the weight loss stage last?

It will depend on your starting weight and the type of surgery you will have. I had RNY gastric bypass and I transitioned to the Maintenance phase at around 7 months. Individuals that have sleeve surgery generally lose at a slower rate and some enter maintenance after 2 years.

I had open RNY bypass in 2002. I lost actively for around 8 months. Have pretty much maintained (read: lost and gained my last 30 lbs.) for 15 years.

Had RNY I would say there are 3 phases - 1st phase is honeymoon phase which lasts about 8 months when it's pretty hard NOT to lose weight. Then the 2nd phase u still lose weight but slower until about 18 months post op and then maintenance starts around 2 years...my body seems to like the weight it is now. I exercise and if I wanted to lose weight I have to cut out carbs and alcohol.
