Time Off Work

I'm having my band removed and gastric bypass done Feb 10th. How long was everyone off work? Most things I see say 2 weeks but some people are saying 6 weeks minimum.

  • My dr approved me for 4 weeks but I'm going back after 3 because I'm so bored sitting at home. I prefer my routine so getting back to work and keeping busy will help with my head hunger also...

I was off for 5 days before going back half days. This is not typical and you should listen to your doctor and your body throughout this process. Your procedures will take a lot out of you and there is no way to know for sure how you will respond... The doc will tell you 6 to 8 weeks, but you have a say in your treatment. I did not take narcotics. Could drive safely and was told so by my doctor. One day at a time. You can do this!

My procedure is next week. I'm only taking a week off from work & college. The nurse said as long as I don't lift over 20 lbs within 6 weeks, I'll be fine.

My profile picture is not me. It's my "FitSpiration" body.

I work from home and went back to working after 1 week, but my surgeon said I'd need 2 weeks if I wasn't working from home.

  • 2 weeks later...

I requested a week. The pain and soreness was more than I can imagine. I may request another week off to make it two.
