Approval letter?

It seems that once the surgery is approved they received a letter from the insurance company. Was it like that for most of you? I called my insurance, carefirst bcbs, and they said the request and after being on hold for about 15 minutes she's says they submitted it twice but the first request was approved. Called the surgeons office and they say it's still pending. What should I do? Wait it out or do some more digging? Scheduled for 9/26

My official approval letter did not show up until 4 weeks later when afrer i was discharged from the hospital. But the surgery was approved the same day that the practice submitted the packet.
