Pre-Op Phase Question

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am scheduled to be banded on August 31st and began my two week pre-op liquid phase last Friday. My doc requires one week two liquid meals and one small, normal meal, and then the second week is all liquids.

My question is - what is a "small, normal" meal? Everytime I put something in my mouth that isn't liquid I feel like I am doing something wrong. I'm eating regular foods, but I'm eating much less than I normally would. I still feel like I'm cheating. I'm concerned that things won't be as doc wants/needs them when I go in for surgery.

Any insight would be appreciated.:help:

If you think you can make it with liquids only, go ahead and switch -- if it relieves your worrying over the whole issue.

Otherwise, I would say "small" could be defined by eating dinner on a saucer rather than a dinner plate.

Just DO what they tell you -- you want your liver to shrink!! My surgeon almost had to close me up unbanded because my liver was still so big!!! Took him almost 2 hours to do what should have taken a half hour or less!

DON'T CHEAT!!

Nana - thanks for the response, although it no longer matters. I just got a call from the doc office and they moved my date up to the 29th. This means that I get to start full liquids tomorrow. From what you said I really didn't do as bad as I thought. In an odd sort of way I'm glad I don't have to worry about what a "small, normal" meal is (although the "small" part was easy, it was the "normal" that confused me).

Don't worry, Tabitha. We've been told we're NOT NORMAL for so long, the mere word is intimidating!!

Glad your wait is shorter though....just cause I know how slow time moves when we're waiting for a major life change!

Yes, things are moving rather slowly! And, patience is not one of my virtues. ;)

So, Nana, I noticed in another post of yours that you are from Texas and lived in Midland. I lived in Midland for about 1 year and I grew up in Odessa (was there about 25 years.) I'm in MO now, but TX is really home for me.

Small world, huh?? My husband worked in Odessa, but we lived in Midland. He loved it more than I did and would move back -- I hear about this mostly when we're stuck in traffic! But I like rain and cloudy days, so in that way I'm happier here in Houston now.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
