This Hospital wants me to bring in every bottle of Rx medication I have in my house. Most of which I only take once a week like Vit D or Omneprozole or Folbic, that's Vitamin B.

Don't all Dr.s and Hospitals have privilege now to just pull my pharmacy fills? Would that not be easier?

Would they not just give me a blood or urine test before as well? Isn't that safer in all ways?

I will be out of it, 5am Monday morning and my poor 73 year old mom will be carrying my things. I don't mind bringing in my medicines that I can not live w/o like my special brand of lisinopril, by Sandoz, other brands fail to control my BP. My Clonazepam for anxiety, this past year I developed issues.

I have Fibromyalgia, Spinal Stenosis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Chronic Fatigue. I am on regulated Pain medicine for that and see a specialist. My surgery date is the next due date of my meds. I do not want my mother to be carrying around these regulated meds, because the D E A has us chronic pain patients terrified that if we let another person hold them, or if they get lost or stolen, we're basically going to drop dead right then and there.

I don't mind her picking up my new Rx while I am in the hospital because the Dr and Pharmacist have told me that this is ok, she will have her ID and I have cleared that with them. At least if she has them and get's stopped, we have proof of WHY she has them.

Any advice? I will take my bottles, but I am not taking the 2 or 3 pills I will have left (on my refill due date). And I will tell the nurses to please discard my bottles.

What would you do or has anyone encountered this, is my fear irrational?

Well as far as your Mom carrying your meds around and your worried about her being prosecuted I would say you are being paranoid. You would not believe the meds people bring in for family. Sometimes my jaw drops open when I see it , LOL. As far as your meds it is faster to do a cross check for interactions and possibly give them to you to use at bedside if you need them then to try to get them in house if you decide at three A.M. that you need a med you didn't bring.

You may ask if you can just bring in a list. My doc wanted a list of medications that I possibly might take. Over the counter, supplements, PRN prescriptions Everything. They took my list and told me what I could take after and gave me what I needed while in the hospital. They took me off all of my supplements all over the counter stuff except Tylenol. And took me off 3 of my prescriptions. Basically they left me on my omniproziol , my antidepressant, and a migraine med and added a vitamin.

I think I will also take the magnesium type Vitamin I've been taking along with all that. I don't want to throw off my electrolytes or god forbid, faint or anything from taking something I "think" will be safe here.

I might take my bottle of pain medication in MY OWN pockets that day, even if I'm in pain and out of it ... feel better about it, like my jean pockets I guess. Then nothing is on her. My Bariatric Dr is handling the pain control while I'm in the hospital. But yes, the other stuff I should take. That's going to be a huge ziploc if Vitamins are included.

I really don't know, just guessing. You have no idea how much fear the pain management industry is forced, by the DEA to instill in us, it's really humiliating and rather unnecessary for us compliant patients.
